    Just found out today...........

the drug tests came back POSITIVE!!!!

    WOOHOOO!!!!!!!!!

As much as that pisses me off, I'm happy about it because that's just going to add to his jail time!!!

I still want to beat the schmit out of him though!!!

I am so very sorry your familt has to deal with this. I hope all the kids involved see some prison time with the driver getting life. Now, since he's a minor his parents should be footing his prison bill for the whole time he is sentenced, even if it's for life. I think if the families have to pay for their loved one's prison time we would see people being more involved with keeping others out of trouble. If these families get any taxpayer assistance, the they should ALL be cut off of it for life also.

I drink (not a lot anymore) & as soon as me first can of beer is opened you don't even get me to answer the phone yet alone try to drive anywhere. I drink only on my home propertty or at my camper. I don't even do one glass of alcohol when I go out to eat.

Not even sure what I would think if my kid put me through something like that. She got caught smoking a cigarette (by the state cops) when she was 16 and we had to go through all kinds of stuff for that. Financially, counseling, some drug classes, community service... cant even remember what else.
I would probably emancipate my kid for all of this and want no part of it. Sometimes you dont know what your kids are doing so I find it hard to hold them responsible financially for everything but then again we dont know. Maybe they are rich and can and will do something for the families. They have to be understanding everything they put two families through. I like the check idea somebody here said... I wish the guy that was in the accident with my parents would have had to do that. Even a dollar just as a reminder. I'm sure he has fogotten all about it by now, I would like to remind him about it! I put flowers on their graves every summer and I never even got to know them.
I guess I should thank my kid more for being a good kid and not putting me through some of this stuff that other parents have to go through!

Thank you for posting this, I know it must be so hard for you! I am praying for you! Justice will be served one way or another.

    UPDATE:
On Jan 8th, we found out that the other woman's daughter had been called out of town on business, and would be unable to make the hearing on the 10th. (IMO, had it been MY mother that was killed, NOTHING would have kept me from that trial/hearing.)

The DA explained the situation to the judge, and asked for the trial to be rescheduled again. She told him that she felt that someone should be there representing these two women, and that my mother and I had already been there in Dec for the first hearing, but since we lived so far away, we were unable to make it to the this one. He agreed! The next hearing is scheduled for Feb 10th.

The DA told my mother she really wants to take this to a trial. She really wants to nail this kid for what he did. We feel the same way, and we really appreciate all the work this woman is putting in to this case! We feel so helpless being so far way. There's just no way we can take the time off again to go back out there. I already took 2 1/2 weeks off work (unpaid!) just before Christmas, to go out there and help take care of everything.

I really wish they could just keep postponing it until the summer! Let his a$$ sit there, and maybe by then we could save up enough money to go back out there.

But for now, he's still sitting in jail waiting for the next hearing on Feb 10th.

I've seen the father and the sister. My first impression was not a positive one.

I'd make a few comments and generalizations.........but some things are best left unsaid for now.

I can only pray for you guys. Just heart breaking!!!! I am so glad he is in jail and they are not giving him bail. Can you write a letter to the judge that could be read at the trial?

sad to say this, but I'm sure he won't get much time. my guess is for vehicular homicide....10 years
he will probably get more probation than actual jail time.

California is so over populated as it is.

    keep us updated

I'm writing a "Letter of Impact'' this weekend, and I need your help. (Those that haven't already commented)

I'm going to include some of the comments from here in my letter, but would like a few more opinions/comments on how much time you think he should get.

I won't use anyone's name or ID, just the comments.

    Thanks!

Whenever I read about a drunk driving fatality, I always have a deep sense of shame. Being a recovering alcoholic, I have driven while drunk, only got pulled over once, that time I was told to go to a Dunkin Donuts shop and drink coffee for 45 minutes before driving again. The cop checked up on me too. But for the Grace of God go I. I don't know why God (or Higher Power) spared me from a DUI and from hurting or killing somebody.

I will pray for your family and hope that the kid who killed your aunt and friend sees the light. I think he should get a stiff sentence, he didn't kill from hate, he killed from indifference, which is worse. He just didn't give a chit
To get flowers, you need more than sunshine, you need chit and rain too
