    Darn scrap metal buyers!

Our town is building a new school so they had to sell off everything in the old building. Yesterday they had an auction to do just that. My sister is a teacher in another town and could use a lot of the stuff they were selling. What should have gone for low prices to people that could use the things were bid up sky high by people wanting to sell the items for scrap metal. So much of this stuff was new or almost new and to think that, not only my sister, but other people trying to find cheap stuff for schools, daycares and churches were "robbed" out of getting it because people wanted to sell it for scrap. Someone said something to one of the guys bidding stuff up and he said, "Well, I gotta make a living." GET A JOB!!!! Just made me so mad!!

Did anyone bother to contact the highest bidder and offer to purchase some of the items they would not be able to recycle as scrap metal?

The bright side is more money went to the school auctioning their suff.... Wasn't that the purpose?

Exactly... the schools need the money with all the budgets getting cut... which was the point. At least these ppl actually BOUGHT the items instead of stealing it like they do around here... I can't even tell you how many times the schools around here have had to replace stuff scrap metalers have stolen.

Same here--we have a small community building and some one stole the AC unit from it...The worse tho was the guys that were stealing the urns from the cemetary. But I am not sure who was worse the idiot that stole from the cemetary or the fool that bought it at the scrap yard..They both need to rot in H**L.

While I understand your frustration, for the people who go to these auctions, this is their job. Similar to people who buy & sell used junk and/or antiques. They are making an honest living. It just makes it harder for us to get a better bargain. If the prices were still reasonable, the people who wanted the items, should have just increased their bids.

That's my vent...the prices weren't reasonable and the people who could use or needed the items couldn't afford to buy them.

But, in the scheme of things...the school got the most money. While others couldn't get items cheaply...I think the point was to raise the most money...not for everyone to purchase items cheaply, regardless of how they could use those items.

I'm totally with you. While yes, the school got the money it would have been better for the items to actually go for what they were intended for.
