Insurance!
We just got a letter from our health insurance company, we get one this time every year. Guess what? Our premium is going up AGAIN! How many times have we filed a claim since we've had our policy? NONE!!! I hate how they raise everyone's rates, used or not, just to compensate for the people who DO use it or for all the fraud. We already have a ridiculously high deductible just so we can afford to have insurance and now we can't even afford to have it because of their stupid rate increase. And Obama wants everyone to have insurance or face a fine?! Between this, the cost of gas, groceries and everything else, who can afford to have insurance?

You are paying higher reates for everyone who deson't have insurance or those that decide to use the ER instead of having a family doctor.
We are going through this at work right now. Our rates are insane but we also have one of the top tier insurances. The PPO or EPO versions of the same insurance isn't all that much cheaper plus the deductibles are higher plus add the 20% for out-of-netwrok.

Where my husband works, every year the insurance goes up and we lose more benefits.

Yup! Ours goes up & our benefits decrease.

You are NOT paying for the uninsured. Payments to our doctor thru insurance agreement was $15 plus our $15 copay for a total of $30 per visit, per person. When we no longer had insurance I had to beg the doctor to discount the payment to $70. The uninsured are not the problem with doctors offices.

Oh you most certainly are paying for those who are uninsured. Have to been to an ER lately??? It is flooded with people with an Access card who use the ER as their family doctor. Hospitals have to treat everyone who comes in whether they have insurance or not. I live in an area with a ton of illegals. They go to the ER & don't pay & are long gone before anything goes into collections. The hospitals have to pass those costs on to those of us who either have insurance or actually do pay their medical bills.
I saw one of my specalist last week. A 20 minute visit left me with a $150 bill & I have a cadillac plan without a deductible.

my work pays for my insurance, and because it would cost me so much... (over $500 a month) to put my son on it, he qualifies for soonercare.. they take approx $75 a month from my child support as a premium for it. but my co-pays are so high i still can't afford to go to the dr. my dr co pay is $35... then if he writes you a prescription or 2, its another 30-40 each... then.. if my insurance doesn't cover everything, i still get a bill from the dr's office. gotta have $150 or more to throw away just to be sick... I've been to the dr 2 times in over 10 years now....

I know what you mean. I have several things I SHOULD go to the doctor for (dentist too), but since we have such a high deductible (and no dental insurance), insurance wouldn't pay anything anyway. Other than pregnancies, I can recall only being to the doctor for myself twice in 10-15 years.

For anyone saying we are not paying for the uninsured - yes we are. There is a little known fact that the cost of your insurance policy has a additional fee that goes to the hospitals in your area to keep them open. Lawmakers don't want that info out since people would get even madder to find out they would be better off sometimes without insurance and just going to the hospital like the "uninsured".
As for the Obama plan - I have a friend that figured out it would actually be cheaper to be uninsured and pay the fine and then go get insurance if you needed it. I know it sounds crazy but a bunch of us bean counters checked and it will be cheaper that way. Unfortunately I don't have a choice I have to have insurance since I am a type 1 diabetic. The only part of the Obama plan I can't wait for it to kick in is the removal of the pre-existing discrimination. Now off this Obama plan stuff before it gets too rowdy in here.
Our company insurance is a PPO plan and I can tell you that the plans go up every year. I literally spend a month looking at different plans and insurance companies. It costs twice as much to cover me as it does to cover one of our male employees that is the same age as me because I am a female not because of any other reason just that I am a woman.

You are right Sandy. I spent this past month comparing policies. What we save on one will be eaten away with higher decuctables & that stupid 20% for out-of-network. We have traditional Blue Cross & we are sticking with them. I have to pay out-of-pocket for my specialist but I can re-coop this through Major Medical or as adeduction on my income taxes.
Last week I flunked my Colonscopy & I even "preped" for it too *LOL* I have to go for a different test in May to see why my doctor could not do the colonscopy.

My husband is a union welder, we pay $58 a week for family coverage. No copay and great on perscriptions. We have Anthem/Blue Cross. I'm thankful that we have excellent insurance through his work. Now, my work is another story. The people who have it (you can choose inlue of benifits, meaning take the insurance and get paid holidays or don't and have higher pay rate) they pay $60 a week, $6000 a year deductable PLUS a copay and almost nothing is covered. BS right?
P.S. Joanne, the Caughman in Findlay clinic goes on pay scale for medical and dental. It's were a few of my friend go. Call them.
