Had to put a furbaby to sleep

Thursday, I had to put my cat, Killer, to sleep. He was 13 years old and had a tumor in his nose. His poor little face was distorted with the tumor and he was sneezing blood so I had to put him down. Killer was born in my house and I have had him all his life. He was a big cat that loved tummy rubs sooooo much that he would run ahead of you and throw himself on the floor on his back begging for a tummy rub! His best friends were Petey and Spike, they would chase each other all over the house. Spike would pick on Killer though, and Killer would whine, but they made up and licked each other.

When I got back from the vet, Petey and Spike were looking at me wondering what I did with Killer. They keep looking around for him, looking around and behind the furniture.

I will miss Killer, but I did have him for 13 years and he was active for all those years

I hate that you had to do that (((Barb))). We have had to had one dog put down and it was one of the hardest things we ever had to do. You gave Killer a good home and a good life. I am sure he is playing with Spud and the gang at the Rainbow Bridge.

The act of making the choice is the most loving, resposible thing a pet owner can do. I am so sorry for your loss, before Christmas I had to do the same thing but with my dog. I know you are heartbroken but please take comfort that you will see your faithful friend again on the other side at the end of the rainbow bridge

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Work like you don't need money, love like you've never been hurt, And dance like no one's watching

So sorry you had to do this, Barb. I know that pets are like children. You have my sympathy.

I am so sorry for your loss. We love them so much and hate to do this but as iluvmybaby said, it "is the most loving, responsible thing a pet owner can do." I fully agree. I am so happy that you had those 13 years though! And Killer being a kitty, what wonderful, fun mischief he must have wrought in your household!

I have to agree with what iluvmybaby said, and she said it beautifully. I am sure that Killer will be missed by you and his furbaby pals, but we know he is happy and healthy now.

I am so sorry for you. My heart is breaking for you. I have 2 cats that I raised from the time they were about 3 weeks; bottle feedings every 2 hours then trying to massage them to make the potty. Now they are my babies, I can't sleep without them. My son got an abandoned kitten last fall. She is my avatar & she is his world. I don't know how I could ever find the strength to take them to put them to sleep.

I think I have only ever had to put one animal down. A horse that was older and was hurt. It was so hard and I still feel terrible about it. I was about 15 then so 30 years ago... WOW!
I feel for you, I know it is the hardest decision to have to make. Not fair at all sometimes! Sorry about your baby!

I cant even imagine having to make that decision for a human on life support.
