Why do people treat their dogs better than their kids??

You keep a dog on a leash.....right?

Why?

Too keep it from running away in a split second and getting hit by a car.

How's that different than a child? Takes a split second for ANY child (and don't tell me YOURS wouldn't do it), to run out in traffic or get away from you in a mall. Anyone can pick your kid up and take off with him/her the second you don't have your eyes on them.

I can't tell you how many times I've been behind a small child walking in a store (and an Amusement park!!) where the parent is 10-15 feet ahead of them, not paying one damn bit of attention. I could have taken off with that kid in a split second, before the parent had any idea.

Nothing wrong with kids on a harness. (Now, if it was strapped around their neck, like a dog collar, THEN I'd have a problem with it)

You hit the nail on the head here.....the parents are not paying attention.

I think some see it as a lack of parental participation/involvement, others may see it as treating your child/human being as a "dog" (and not meant in a good way). Children are not animals. (although I've met a few to which that could be debated.)

I can see both sides of the argument on this.

well when my kids were little, i had a long bungee type cord that went from a velcro strap around my wrist to one around his that also had a squeeze clip to keep him from taking it off. ..... I loved it... he was still able to run and expend all that energy, and i always knew right where he was... it didn't keep me from keeping my eyes on him, but it kept him from wandering off.... my boys were all climbers too, so it kept them from climbing out of the shopping cart and trying to go back to the toy section, when i was paying out... (my oldest did it once before i got the bungee). its was just an added measure...

The problem is not just the kids running off its what they do and touch when they run off. I was in the shoe department of a store the other day and saw a kid on the ground sucking on a shoe, I had so many problems with that I wouldn't know where to begin. Point is parents have to teach children to not act like animals.

TRUE STORY
When I was 17, I was into the spiked collars and black leather clothes.

My dad took me to the mall to get something for my mom's birthday. I HATE THE MALL.
So I wore a spiked collar, leather shorts and a black tank top, with black boots.
When we got to the mall, I handed my dad a leash. He held it for awhile, until he realized people where watching him walk ME through the mall.

I did not have to go back to the mall for a very long time!

Aww, but people don't put their dogs on leashes anymore, they go in a purse or cart or stroller lol....
