No, no, no!
My air conditioner died last night. It is 87 in my house right now and its's 7:15 AM. Of course one of the stories on the news last night is the week long waiting period for AC repairs in our area.

Call around not all A/C contractors are that backed up. I will give you a little not so good news. If they have to replace either the condenser or air handler you might end up having to replace both since finding units that still use R-22 (old style) freon are getting very hard to come by. Now a little better news if you do replace them and can afford to go to a higher efficiency there is a up to $ 1500.00 tax rebate. It is 30% of the cost. So if it costs $ 5000.00 to replace you would get the full tax rebate. Make sure to get the paperwork.
However, with our service calls it has been a lot of capacitors and contactors going out. Pretty easy to replace and they run anywhere from $ 45.00 to $ 100.00 each plus labor. Make sure to ask what their labor rate is and what they charge if your unit needs freon. Our freon price is $ 28.00 per lb. it is getting pretty expensive.

I am enjoying the heat! I haven't even turned on the a/c. I have the windows open & my ceiling fans on and am nice & cool.

Obviously you don't live on the east coast

My condolences as well. Living in the south there's no way I'm going w/out a/c somewhere in my house. Good luck finding someone to come out and fix it for you.

They will be out on Monday. Husband went out and bought 2 window units today and had them up and going before I got home. Bless his heart, he knows what a ***** I turn into when the heat gets to me. I already have the half tan from being in the mail truck, but now our trucks keep breaking down too. It's not fun waiting in that heat.

wow, I feel for ya. It finally hit triple digits here yesterday, (and no, we are definaltly not enjoying it). This was not the heat index, but the actual temp. I went to the eye md today, and at 10:45am I passed a bank sign that said 104.
