Thread: I am scared out of my wits and the police wont help!

About 2 months ago I started getting weird phone calls. They always came up "Private" on the caller ID. Because I work from home and use that phone number for my business, I answered. No one said anything on the other end. They would call about once a day. Then it stopped for awhile only to pick back up. Only this time they were calling at least 5 times in a row and now at all hours including 1am, 2am etc etc. After I started getting the early morning calls, I ran a trace on the number. But in Illinois, the phone company will not reveal the callers number (and I cant block the number without knowing it). You have to file a police report which I did. The officer told me that not only were they NOT going to give me the info do to privacy laws, that the only thing he could do was contact the caller and ask them to stop. Only after I pressed charges AND hired a lawyer AND go to court would I find out the callers identity. Well the calls went back to being like once a day for awhile. But then other things happened...like someone tried to open my front door, my neighbor caught someone in my backyard trying to get in thru my basement door (he ran after him but couldnt catch up), the light bulbs in my motion lights outside were busted out by a rock or something because they were shattered all over the place-both the front and back door ones and my car, which was parked in front of my house was scratched-completely around the entire car!!!! Now the calls are back to the wee hours of the am and they will leave weird noises on my answering machine and then repeatedly call back for up to 20 mins. The police refuse to do anything. When my neighbor spotted the guy in my backyard, he called the police. They came out and were so reluctant to even listen to me!!!!!! They really acted like they could care less! They tell me that because my life isnt threatened (yeah right) that they cant do anything more! WTH!!!! I sent my DS to live with the EX for awhile but he insisted on coming back. Joe is out of the picture and right now I am not trusting anyone. I barely leave the house for groceries! I cant change the phone number just yet because its attached to my business and its hard for me to get the word out that the number is changed. The phone co is of NO help. In Illinois you cannot simply block a number that comes thru as private or unknown etc. I dont know what else to do.

Sorry you are going through this. Isn't amazing that crinimals have more rights that victums. Are you supposed to wait until they kill you for the police to respond??? Sheesh!

If I were you I would either try to move, change my phone number or look into getting cameras installed & get a BIG dog!

Thanks everyone. For the record, its NOT Joe. The calls started before he broke up with me. He was here, standing right in front of me, when I would receive some of the calls. I have actually changed ALL the locks on my doors already and I have 3 large dogs but they are not guard dogs-at all unfortunately! And I do own guns but I let my FOID card expire....need to get that taken care of!

Call your local media and tell them the cops arent taking you serious. Maybe they will run a story and get their attention. Invest in security camera. I got one for 40.00 at harbor freight. I hooked mine up to my computer. I can look at it from anywhere.
