    why is it

that we can enforce the death penalty in a timely manner for the DC sniper, but yet we still have how many people sitting on death row for over 20 years now?!?! yes, please waste our tax dollars by prolonging these useless leeches lives...it just doesn't make sense!!!

The big difference is that I believe, please correct me if I am wrong, but the DC sniper was a federal case. The ones sitting in prison so long are State cases.

Did the DC sniper use all of his appeals, or even try to appeal? That is the really big thing about those people sitting so long on death row, they have so many avenues for appeal that it takes so long just to get through all the red tape.

It took 19 years before they finally got rid of this monster: http://www.clarkprosecutor.org/html/death/US/coe627.htm

I don't think it was a federal case, but i could be wrong. I do remember reading an article inwhich they stated that even though he was arrested in Maryland they extridited(sp) him to Virginia because they uphold the death penalty.

I believe it was considered a federal crime & the feds don't waste time. Wasn't that the case with the Oaklahoma bombing case?

Doesn't make sense to me either. We had this guy who killed 13 members of his family almost 30 years ago & is still sitting in state prision. Now his lawyers are asking the courts to stay the execution b/c he found GOD & is too ill right now to execute.

Then we have this guy who killed his 2 year old daughter by smashing in her skull & now wants a retrial b/c he had a difficult childhood.
Insanity is hereditary. You get it from your kids.

7 years is still pretty quick compared to how many inmates have been on it for decades now.

Actually... if you do the research (beyond the cost of the chemicals)... it's much cheaper to sentence someone to life than it is to put someone to death.

Now that I've said that and I'm going to be told how wrong I am w/out anyone actually doing the research, I'll take my leave from this thread.

I'm not putting you down, just stating my opinion...

a bullet doesn't cost much at all...quick and cheap! Why worry about hurting the person and put them to sleep before you administer the drugs to kill them? I don't know the percentages, but a lot of people on death row are there for brutally killing other people so why give these people the easy way out? The people they killed didn't have it easy. JMHO

I agree with that, or something similar.

Not sure how much anyone on here knows about the moron who went on a rampage over his mom complaining about a dog urinating in the house and killed 3 Pittsburgh Police officers back in April of this year. Shortly after that happened I came across this article http://kdka.com/national/alleged.chi...2.1031057.html - people in Philly beat the crap out of this guy who raped an 11 yr old, and no charges were brought against them. I'd be all for beating the crap out of the effing idiot who killed those officers and so would everyone else in Pittsburgh I'm sure!

Another thing I don't get is human rights activists talking about the death penalty being inhumane...these jaggoffs weren't humane when they committed the crimes they're on death row for, why the bloody hell are we worried about being humane to them?!?!
