WTH is up with this rehab place?

A friend of mine started drinking and its gotten way out of hand. His girlfriend kicked him out, he lies and steals from everyone and even stole and drank my fathers wine collection I had! $$$$$ of wine!!!

Anyway, we had our own intervention with him and he agreed to get help and enter rehab. Well they called to have him admitted but there is a waiting list a mile long. But then they tell him while he is waiting for admission, to NOT stop drinking-to do EXACTLY what he is currently doing. WTF! He is not going to survive, or at the very least end up in jail!

We are trying to find another place for him. I hope we find him something ASAP.
    Keep your chin up!

They said they want him in the same state of mind etc that he is in right now. Right now I think he is living in someones garage, drinking all the booze he stole from the last person that let him in, totally OUT of his mind. GRRRR

could also be that if he stops drinking, he could end up in worse shape than he is in now... (depending on how long he has been an alcoholic... he could end up with seizures or worse) ~ I've been watching way too much Intervention on A&E lol

Yes, thanks for telling us that. I know they can go into withdrawal and it is not pretty. If he does that he wold need to be in a place to help him.

Yea exactly. Just because its alcohol and not a hard drug does not mean he wouldnt have one hell of a battle on his hands. He needs to be in the proper place with proper people to handle it.
Its just sad these places are so overrun and underfunded. Many people need help and maybe cant get it.

I am a recovering alcoholic and going cold turkey from alcohol can kill. I detoxed myself, which was not one of my brighter decisions.

Yes, people can die from detoxing from alcohol. I'm glad you made it Barb.

No but serioulsy OP he needs to keep a certain level of alcohol in him until he gets into a treatment center.

YEP, I know why they keep him drinking too. So he doesn't seizure or worse and to keep him alive, to be honest. Withdraw from alcohol is a dangerous thing to do alone and needs medical mointering, it is NOT a joke. Also when he get's in, his mind and body will be exhausted. As he starts to DETOX, the feelings that started this mess will slowly start to come out, and this AIN'T PRETTY and he will be sick and shakey, but with careful mointoring and regular vitals checks and medications, this can begin the road of recovery. It's a long road and do attempt yourself is never advised. You got to WANT it.
And if you pestered the Rehab places daily and called and called, I bet you would get in faster, or just take him to the ER and have him admitted, they will figure out the rest.
    Been there, DONE IT.

At last....my love has come around..
