Good idea to shop with coupons whenever possible.
I always shop with coupons, but I've noticed a big difference lately in the amount that they are worth. A lot of manufacturers want you to buy 3 at a time just to save a buck. (Example...Cheerios.) It's bad enough cereal is about $3-5 a box..but to buy 3 boxes at one time just to save a dollar, is ridiculous.

And I don't know what's with the P&G coupons lately. A whopping 20 cents off Bounce?? Or $1 off 2 Tide??

And don't even get me started on these 'smaller, more economical' bottles that they try to pass off as a bargain. All they've done is made a smaller bottle and charge more. There's nothing different or better about the product.

it is a sad fact that with the economy the way it is that grocery vendors are probably having to pay more to get products into their stores. I know that the people that work in the stores certainly are not getting paid any more, and I can't imagine that grocery stores are suddenly getting rich. I know that one good thing about summer is that fresh produce is to be had mostly everywhere. support your local farmer!

I've noticed that about the coupons too. I hate it!

I will say though, that cereal is really cheap around here. About every 2 weeks the store has a sale on cereal and I stock up then. Between the in store sale and manufacturer's coupons, I never pay more than 1.50 per box and that's high. Sometimes my kids think I'm nuts when I come home with 12 boxes of cereal lol

And its not just the prices going up,, you get less for paying more for the product thats what I hate. For instance honeycomb used to be a 14 oz box now its 12. Luckily they have been running them on sale at our local hyvee for 3 for $5 alot.
And our potatoes have been around a $per pound. I was wondering what was up with that. usually alot higher??
But I have noticed cat food is gone sky high! Seems like soap and some shampoo prices have gone up also. And in some instances you get less of those two. Okay can't they pick one of the other. Raise prices or give less......

    prices go up
    packages get smaller and smaller
Bought northern bathroom tissue (TP) last week. they downsized! even at Sam's they got smaller. shorter rolls and not as many sheets either.

but your pay doesn't go up!
DH hasn't had a COLA in over 2 years, nor are they giving performance raises.
At least the DOD is giving a raise for 2010.

My dh and I say that all the time. He didn't get a raise last year either. We aren't counting on one this year even though business went good. Better than expected.
I bought dh some dots today and I was looking at the two rows and thinking one box looks smalller. IT WAS!! One side had a 8.5 oz the other one was 7.5 oz.
Its not just groc. going up around here. Its bills too. Electric has gone up 18%.

We're not getting a raise next year either. I was really hoping we would with everything going up.

Well I haven't had a raise in 2 years and none in site - BUT I do still have my job - less hours but I still have benefits which are worth more than the pay I lost.

As for cereal if you have a Aldi near you - go there. Their cereals are suppose to be made by Post or GM - can't remember which. Their Apple Cinnamon that looks like Cheerios is really good and a lot cheaper.

I haven't had a raise in 3 years but like you said we still have a job.

I laugh everytime I take my Mom grocery shopping. She is 85 & each time we go she always has to make the same comment that Jello used to be 5/$1 but now it is $1 for just 1 pack. My Mom, gotta love her!
