What would you do?
I was picking my son up from school. He is a 6th grader. i saw him walking toward me, and I glanced away. When I looked up, I didn't see him anymore. I looked around and he was laying on the ground with kids standing around him(the witnesses)
I walk up and come to find out another 6th grader had taken his hat. he went to get it, and it was thrown on the ground and that boy and an 8th grader started grinding in the dirt with their feet. My son nudged the 8th grader to get him off of it so he could pick it up.
The 8th grader proceded to throw my son to the ground and kicked him in the ribs.
I spoke with the school, my son says his ribs hurt. They are going to investigate further, but have witnesses that saw what happened.
What would you do, would you let the school handle it, or would you go further and contact the police?
Some of the girls who witnessed it says the boy is always being suspended for just such a thing.

Call the police and make a report.. The school can only do so much. The kid needs to learn that you just cannot do that stuff and not get into trouble for it.
I hope his ribs are ok

Call the police. If your son ends up needing to see a doctor because of his ribs a police report will help when you sue the crap out of that punk's family.

He says they are sore, I dont see any marks on his side yet, I dont think they are broke or cracked. I am waiting to see if it bruises up. If he is in any way injured from this, I will definately press charges.

If there is any bruising, take pictures. definitely call the police either way, this way, there won't be a 'next time'.

Get the police involved. This young man obviously has not learned a lesson from the school giving out punishment so it's time for the police to become involved.

Right after we moved to Alabama the kids were playing outside and a Kid(he was 18) was messing around in front of girls (showing off) and shot an air pellet gun in a group of kids. It hit my middle son in the jaw. It left a red mark that went away pretty quickly, but we still called the police. I pressed charges and after almost a year we went to court. I did not want this to be on his record or to get any kind of compensation from it..it was the fact that this "kid" did not think he would get into trouble for it. We accepted him apologizing to my son at the court house and dropped the charges. What we wanted was for him to realize he can not do things like that and get away with it.
I know there is a big difference in an 8th grader and an 18 year old, but it starts young. I would still call the police and make a report, the police will probably go and talk to him about it. This kid needs to learn he can not treat people like that and get away with it. If he learns that no one will do anything now can you imagine what he will be like in a few years?

Call the police and file a report. Maybe one of the reasons the kid keeps getting away with it is because no one bothered to before plus a lot of times the schools don't do crap with the kids like this. There always seems to be one or two every year that get away with stuff all the time.
Hope your son is feeling better. Aren't the middle school years fun?
