In some states, assault is all a domestic violence charge is considered. It carries no more weight than if you were to get into a bar fight. I know for a fact that Kentucky is this way - my ex husband was arrested for hitting me and was charged with 4th degree assault. There was a notation that it was domestic violence, but those notations are rarely seen by employers.

That's terrible! It should carry alot more weight than a bar fight. You're right, most employers won't see annotations on arrest/ court documents, but the federal government does.My husband had an applicant that admitted he had a charge of cruelty to animals against him. When he gotthe applicant's criminal background check back from the FBI,it was very shocking,he was charged with attempting to "molest" a farm animal!!! Needless to say,he wasnt allowed to enlist in the military.

Wow, I would have thought information like that would be confidential.

It was confidential.A few months later I read about it in the paper where he was convicted and was telling my husband about it and he said he knew already,he had came into his office. No confidentiality was broken,it was public knowledge he was charged and convicted. The only thing my husband told me was he wasnt allowed to enlist because his FBI background check couldnt be secured for enlistment.

Oh, wow! Thank you for your responses. I'm sorry I didn't get back here sooner. My daughter was in the ER last night and I've been busy. She was in for some compllications from the beatings she took from that animal. The care in this town is lousy and I've been on the phone all day complaining (not the word I really wanted to use lol) to hospital admin. I did make an app't with a neruologist in Pgh. so hopefully we can get better answers and better help.

When my head is a little clearer, I'll respond more. But thank you!

Oh, he didn't get charged with domestic abuse. It was all assault.
