I know why car dealers and manufactures are hurting!
I need to get a new (to me anyway) car. I actually have someone who wants to buy my hunk of junk for slightly over the Kelly Blue Book value!!!!! The car is way too much hassle than its worth and is costing me so much money! It must go! So I need to find a car. Last week we spent DAYS going over listings etc. I want to get something thats only a few yrs old. I would pay CASH as we cannot get a loan right now because we are both self employed. Either we couldnt get ANYONE to even TALK to us when we went into dealerships or when we could, they would steer us to things we didnt want/afford, said the cars we were interested in were already sold, and were generally unwilling to deal with us! WTH!!!!! We did go to Carmax but they didnt have anything that worked for me in my price range. They seemed to really jack the car prices up-and they were not like that before.
There are no deals, there are no bargains and NO ONE IS WILLING TO WORK WITH YOU!
So now I am forced to go private party. Which seems impossible. I havent been able to find anything so far.

I'm sorry you are having troubles finding a car. Hell here you even pull onto the lot and the vultures come out, I hate that you can't even look without being hassled There are some really great deals going on @ a couple of the dealerships. One dealership even reports a record month in December....I just hope those ppl that bought didn't get in over their head! It really is unbelievable how many vehicles with dealer plates are driving around here right now

It's a sin how much a decent vehicle costs.

Wow. You should come to MA, they are practically giving cars away. Two weeks ago one dealership had a deal of the day..ANY used car was $1000. It was on the news, a woman got an 05 Grand Am for $1000!

Well thats the thing...they are "giving them away" IF you finance them. That way everyone makes more $$$$$$. But when you cant get financing and want to pay in cash, suddenly the fine print comes out and the deals are not available to you!!!!!! GRRRRR
Oh, And thanks everyone!

That sucks. When we went car shopping a couple years ago, DH had just gotten off work, so he was wearing his work jeans that were dirty , and his boots. at 2 of the lots, the guys came out, took 1 look at him, and was trying to get us in cheap POS cars, not knowing DH makes pretty good money and his credit is excellent. Too bad for them. Another car lot didnt care, and we bought a 2001 Ford Escape for $ 9000 which was about 3000 more than what we were looking for, but it had only like 50 K miles on it.
Just keep your chin up, you will find something soon!

You can go to autotrader.com and put in your area code, price range, etc. and it will bring up cars within how ever many miles you are willing to go.

First and foremost - Do NOT tell them you are paying cash. Let them work the deal and when it gets to the finance person - ask what the total price with everything is and then whip out your checkbook and give him a 100% down payment. They don't want to do cash deals since they get a kickback on the financing. HTH

you would think right now they'd want to sell cars more than worry about kickbacks. I honestly didn't know that they would turn their heads on someone wanting to pay it all off, but that makes sense w/ the kickbacks.
OP good luck in finding something, it's really sad when those of us who don't like financing things are looked down upon. Just think of all the money you save anyways, I hope you find something soon.
