Glioblastoma metaform
If any of you remember back in Feb. my mom was in the hospital with Herpes Encephalitis. At the time the c/t's and mri's had what they called two smudgy spots on them. They never said anything to us about them, we found out in March when we went to get the medical files to take to her PCP. Well I really wish they had investigated them or even told us about them. On May 8th mom had some new symptoms crop up(right side of face and chest were numb) so I took her to the er and they did another c/t and found 7 1/2 cm tumor. She has had it removed and we go to neurosurgeon tomorrow for follow up appt. He was pretty sure it was malignant glioblastoma. They did c/t of the rest of her body and everything else seems to be cancer free but she had 25 staples in her head and will soon be starting radiation. I am staying with mom who is sure she won't live until my brother gets home(he's been in the Med. for 7 months/Navy) and I am at my wits end. Grandma's(81) eye surgeries went well and now it's just keeping up with follow up appts. and protimes. Kids are out of school so they are with me all the time and DS(10) is having a hard time with all that's happening. Hell I'm having a hard time with all that's going on. Mom has lost soooo much weight. When she went in in Feb. she weighed 165 now she weighs 124. This is before the radiation. She eats mini meals all day long but is not putting on weight. Oh yeah she's actually allergic to pot so that option is out. I don't know what else to try to help her put the weight on. She has to watch her sugar intake as she is borderline diabetic(because of the anti seizure meds we think) I bought her some ensure today hoping that helps. Anyone have any other ideas to try? If you read all this thank you......

First, I offer my sympathy. I wonder if you could go to like a health food store or something and get those protein drinks or something like body builders use? I hope things get better.

Sorry to hear about your mom's illness. I use 100% Whey Protein Gold Standard. I bought it at a health food store but found it a lot cheaper on Amazon. It comes in a good variety of flavors but I like the double chocolate. It has a healthy amount of proteins, carbs and the like. My doctor suggested this and I have put on some weight.

I am so sorry to hear about your mom. When my mom was going through chemo I added powdered milk to her food. I'd mix it in her meatloaf, hamburgers, and such. She refused to drink ensure. Good luck. Hugs and prayers for you and your mom.

I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. The only way I know to help with weight gain is to have her drink Slim Fast with her meals. (When dieting, you replace a meal with it, but my son's nutritionist said to get him to gain weight to have him drink the slim fast while he ate his meal, that way he was getting double the calories - slim fast calories plus the calories from the meal).

I'm very sorry your mom is goig through this. I would suggest the protien drinks as well - perhaps made into milkshakes to make them more appeasing. I hope all goes well for her!
