When my son was in grade school, I belonged to "Mother's Club". We would do things to raise money for extra's for the school. We also would do a hot lunch for the kids once a month. It was always a few of us doing it all the time. One day 2 of my friends and myself decided that with no one wanting to run for office that we three would get in. Of couse every one was so happy, because they did not have to do it. Little did they know that the gal elected president was really (and I mean this kindly and laughingly) a dictator. Whenever something came up, she would ask for volunteers ( of course no one ever volunteered) so she would just name people and say "you will be responsible for this or that and no excuses, and the subject would be closed. My gosh the first few times it was so funny to see so many jaws drop, but after a bit the other's knew how it was going to be and began to quickly volunteer for what they liked to do. No one person can make a club, whether it be church, school or whatever, but one person can get a club on track and my friend sure did.

I think that your offering was a great gesture, but, if it had been me and I found out that no one else was making a dessert, I would have not made anything either.

I would have informed them that they could run to the store and buy desserts if they so wished to serve them -- at no time should the entire responsibility fall upon you or your family.

It doesn't sound like it was very well thought out.
2 days from now, tomorrow will be yesterday.

Do your part. You promised to bring desserts and that's all they should expect from you. If other members act petty that's their problem. After all, this is a church event. Isn't it about "giving" in the first place? Sounds like there's a bunch of "hippocrates" in your congregation.

that is just like that here at our school....drives me nuts that only a few can be counted on to help with everything that the school needs help for.....you will be rewarded one day for your generosity so dont let it eat at you to much and just pray for people to step up and help next time.

    UPDATE-

One of the men realized that more was needed so he ordered a big pan of banana pudding, and a cherry cobbler was brought by someone.

But I am going to suggest that next time tell people how much they need to pay. We had over 60 people and we only made between 3 and 400 dollars. My dh paid 60 and we are not well off but we wanted to give. Many of the people that were there were a lot better off than us.

OH well enough complaining, the food was delicious. It was fried by a transplanted louisiana boy, He said he knows how to do some Cajun cooking. I have unafficially adopted him because he reminds me of my own son, He weighs about 300 pounds and is about 6 ft 5 and he is like a huge teddy bear, He says yes mam and no mama.

The group sang so good and a blessing was had by all that wanted one. They sang one song about heaven and I kept hearing them singing "When I get to heaven with my wife Ro-own"

They were almost through with the song before I realized they were saying "when I get to heaven with my white robes on" I had to cover my mouth to keep from giggleing out loud.

    Thanks for your replys everyone.

Everything will work out and when it happens the next time I am going to step right up and hold up my hand and say what can I do to help.

Adra number one..............you should of only made 1 dessert that you said you would make. Seeing you make more than 1 just tells others that next time they will do the same cause you will pick up the slack. Sometimes standing fast is the best thing to do!!
Number 2.........it is a known fact that 8 times out of ten the ones with plenty of money are the ones who dont give much and are the first to complain about prices of things. The ones who have little give the most whether it be of their time or money.
