    Fricken Frackin %*#@&

Can you see how my days going!!! Took my vehicle in because my rear brakes were starting to grind they told me around $160 then they called me and said rotors too worn to machine, now my total went to $350, just called me again and said something about the emergency park brakes needed replacing also... new grant total $475+tax. $475 after I just had to replace my water heater for $650 last week and my husbands vehicle needed brakes and an airflow sensor cleaning for $300 2 weeks ago. I really need to plant a fast growning money tree cause I am freaking tapped out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

About 2 years ago my husband took his truck in to get the basic brake job done. When all was said and done, it was about $600 and they never worked
right again. That was the first time he had taken one of our vehicles in for someone else to do something to it. He usualy does the work himself. Needless to say, he wont take one back to a shop again.

It sounds to me like you need to find a new mechanic. I think they may be trying to take advantage of you. Don't you just LOVE those mechanics who routinely "find" things wrong with your car that they weren't asked to check.

I would certainly let you borrow it!! I just am to the point I want to say the hell with it all. Shelling out money for this money for that, we planned a family vacation for next month, but with the price of gas and all these unplanned things it's looking less likely to happen.
I read your thread and see that you are in the same situation I am, back in Sept. my washer and dryer both quit with in a week of each other...nice huh good thing I hadn't bought a new washer yet so we did end up getting a set, but there again unexpected things. BTW I hope your dog gets well quickly!

What kind of car do you have? Seems to me like they are rippin you off on the rotors! Price check'em thru napa auto website.

It should be no more labor to put them on, so make sure they are only charigng you about 1 hr labor ($70-$90) TOTAL for the brake job & to put the rotors on.

I take it you drive a stick? because they say your parking needs replaced?
I've never heard about soemone having to get that replaced., I worked in auto-repair for a yr @ PepBoys., so I could be wrong., but seems fishy to me.

    Here's what my invoice said:
    Replace rear shoes/pads and rotors
    replaced park brake shoes

    Labor $102
    Non-oem B/rotr (2) $170
    Lining K (2) 59.12
    Pad kit $81.90

They also fixed a light for $24.60 and get this they charged me $7 for the courtesy vehicle!! I was like WTF, why am I being charged for that!? They said it was due to gas prices! HA like I even drove off $7 in gas going to my house and back! Farkers!!

Sometimes mechanics will tell you that you need to replace this and that but the truth is they need $ too and they are not always very honest. I suggest only fixing the most important break pads and the rotor. I still think the total is a little too high. It should be around 200. You can go and pick up the parts yourself from AutoZone and just pay for the labor.

Pads seem the right cost., but the kit & the rotors seem high to me.

I always search the parts & prices @ http://napaonline.com/ before I take my vehicle in., that way., I know how much the parts should be & not a dime more., because like jones said., just buy the part yourself & pay just the labor.
