Did they use OEM brake rotors? Meaning if you had a Jeep did they use Mopar parts or after market parts? That is probably why the rotors were high if they used OEM (original equipment manufacturer) parts they will be higher. And before anyone jumps in and says that is a waste of money - actually it isn't sometimes. I use Jeep as a example because I have had 4 of them and if you use ANY after market manufacturer of rotors they will warp within 5000 miles - trust me I have dealt with these for about 20 years and have plenty of experience with brake rotors. So sometimes paying more for a part is worth it if you get more use out of the parts. Also most of the time the rotors cannot be turned - they are actually making rotors thinner now than on older cars so they can't always be turned. Also if you waited too long you could have damaged the rotors so that they couldn't be turned anyway.

And as dv8grl suggested bringing your own parts to a mechanic - will not always work - most reliable mechanics will not install parts that they didn't provide because if you provided a defective part then you would want them to replace it for free and they should not be held responsible for your part failure. Which you would try to blame on them for 'defective installation'.

SLance is right about some mechanics not wanting to put in parts that they arent familiar with. Most "major" corporate auto repair places will do it, but I know alot of foreign mechs that won't ., since the parts are so specific.
