It was wrong of that person to just hit it and leave it to die like that.

I do have some compassion, I said I was sorry her and her family were sad. I feel for their sadness. No I do not blame the person that hit the cat. It is only a cat, not a person. I do not slam on my brakes or swerve or risk wrecking for any animal, I hit the animal. I would not stop either. You never know what kind of crazy people are out there and who would shoot you for hitting their pet.

((Tasha)) I am so sorry you and your little ones had to see that. It was very rude of that person to not stop.

My yorkie jumps out the windows all the time and he is an inside animal it is not like I let him. It takes a special kind of person to be so heartless as to hit an animal and not stop. As for animals running loose in others yards I feel that if you know who the animal belongs to you should notify them before you have them carted off for cryin out loud.
OP did not say her cat "accidently" got out. She knew cat was out and at the neighbors. If your dog keeps jumping out windows then you should not open the windows or put screens or bars up to keep him in. When he runs into the street and gets hit are you going to blame the person that hit him? I hope not because it will be your fault that he is out. As far as animals in my yard, they are where they don't belong and I have the right to call to have them "carted off" as you put it. If their owners would take care of them, they would not be in my yard.

You all say " oh they are part of the family, just like my kids" REALLY!? would you let your kids run the neighborhood like that, let them run in the street. If you love your animals, keep them in your yard or house where they cannot get run over or whatever.

You must lead a sad lonely life, because you seem to be such a bitter person. Compassion is a quality you seem to be lacking among your personality traits. You might want to consider your postings to others and how they look. It will affect how people would respond to you if you ever post a situation on this forum when you come here looking for sympathy or compassion from others. What goes around comes around.

Tasha, I'm sorry about the loss of your pet. Hugs to you.

Sorry to inform you that you are very wrong here. I am not sad, or lonely or bitter. I just don't feel sorry for people who do not take proper care of their animals and then their animals get run over or something. I did say I was sorry that her and her family were sad, I do feel their pain, but that does not mean I don't think they are to blame for their cats death, not the person that hit it. They were the cats caretakers and did not do their job. I am sorry if that seems blunt or uncaring to you but that is how I see it, plain and simple. I have the right to voice my opinion on this matter since OP put it in a public forum.

Well ain't you just sweet?? Really, I can feel the love.

Why be so damn rude over something like this? Would like to tell my 7 & 4 yr old kids that? "Sorry your damn cat got killed but you shouldn't have let it come outside to play with you so its all your fault!"

The house it was so rude to let it go to, is empty. It has been for over a year now. So I'm sure the mice and spiders that live inside of the empty house were offended "I let my cat go over there".

My cat ran outside the fence and ran across the street to the empty house. I did not LET him. My other neighbor, who lives beside of the empty house, walked over to him and was letting her little 3 yr old boy pet him. My cat got spooked when the vehicle came SPEEDING down the street and he tried to run back to us. He didn't make it. So don't be so damn rude when you don't even know the full story. I didn't just throw him outside and say... roam wherever you want and to hell with everyone else and their property.

ANYWAY.. thanks to all who offered hugs and nice words. I really appreciate it. Its been hard to deal with, especially after seeing it all happen. I didn't sleep well last night and my little kids are taking it hard. So the words and hugs mean alot right now.

And likewise, don't be upset if people comment on your lack of compassion. If you want to step up on your soapbox, start your own thread. (Other people have done just that with other topics.)

It's unkind of you to jump on their loss and sadnesss. Don't paint the family as careless or unconcerned because their cat got away. The fact that the driver was *speeding* through the neighborhood seems to have dropped off your radar.

Yep, I would tell them that, but maybe in a nicer way than you put it here. I would say, " I am very sorry your cat got ran over. I know you are sad but that is what happens when we don't take care of our pets. If we are going to let our pets outside we should make sure they are on a leash or in a fenced yard that they cannot get out of.

The house it was so rude to let it go to, is empty. It has been for over a year now. So I'm sure the mice and spiders that live inside of the empty house were offended "I let my cat go over there".

First of all you never said in your original post that he "accidently" got out. You said you were sitting in your swing watching him at the house across the street. Now if my pet got out I would be up off my butt going to get it back. And of course you are going to say the person that hit them was speeding, that is what everyone says when they don't want to accept the blame for their own wrong doing.

Ummmm...no. Sometimes the person REALLY IS SPEEDING. The person who hit my car and caused the accident was SPEEDING. Oh, and drinking, too. I'm not about to "accept the blame" for their actions.
