    Satellite,Cable,DSL

Right now I have DSL thru ATT which is a joke. My speed is slow and all they tell me is that they are surprised we get it at all since we are so far from the head end. We are at the end of the line. Cable TV is going allm digital so we were considering satellite for TV and internet. Do any of you use satelitte for iinternet? How is it? What are the pros and cons? Also if you use cable what are your views on that?

I want to cancel my ATT services since we all have cell phones but do not want to have dial up for internet besides the cost of dial up thru our cell phones would cost way more than I could handle.

    TIA

    Me

I do and I have had dsl in the past (cant get it where I am now) and dsl is WAY faster than sat. not to mention when you get the HUGE clouds you are out of service. We also have a download and upload limit on ours, even though we did up to to a bigger package

We have cable internet through Charter along with Digital TV and very soon phone service through them as well. (It will be far cheaper per month to do all three then seperate through seperate services)
We love the cable internet. We will do without internet before going to dial-up or satalite internet. I've heard too many bad things about the satalite, going out too much, speed isnt what they said it would be. Our internet rarely goes out, Charters customer service is great for us. We're more or less pleased all around.

Don't forget that the RAM on your computer also takes its part in the speed of your computer as well. I have broadband internet from Comcast and love it, however it would be a lot faster if I upgraded the RAM on my computer.

As a former DSL custoemr support technichian I can tell you that the distance issue is VERY real. They shouldnnt sell you DSL if they are UNABLE to provide the minimum speed though. IN fact they should upgrade your speed to the next teir at no additional charge and see if that helps.

For your situation, the satellite option might be fine BUT it is usually pretty pricey.

I have DirecTv for my tv programming including HD, but I wouldnt consider them at all for internet. I get faster speed for about 1/3 the price on sbc yahoo dsl.

Most DSL ISP's have a minimum speed agrement though. If for example you are paying for a 1.5 mbps speed and your measured speed are aonly getting to sab the 768 neighborhood they are NOT meeting their obligaton to you as a company.

I would REALLY try to get them to bump your speed first. you shouldnt have to switch because they cant provide what they said they would.

I've been seriously thinking about going with satellite internet as well so that we can give up our land line. The only thing I wonder about it is if the internet service go out when it rains like the TV programming does.

I think that it also depends how well your dish is placed, I have YET to have any total outages in the 7 months I have had DirecTv. I have a 5 LNB monster dish to get the Hd programming and it has been a solid performer.
