My boiling point has been reached!
The last 24 hours have been so stressful, as of now, I have locked myself into my computer room to de-stress before I take all of my frustrations out on my DH and DS. None of this is their fault, they are just convenient for me to blow up on and I really do not want to do that.
Last night we got a call, it seems my MIL has finally lost it for sure this time (some of you may remember the problems we have had with her in the past.) She was carted off to jail for burglary and theft. 52 year old woman with nothing better to do than to break into the next door neighbors apartment and take some stuff! On her way out with the loot, the neighbor came home and caught her red handed.
She calls me from jail, everyone else in the family uses their cell phone as their home phone, so we were the only ones that she could actually call. My hubby was still at work, so she asks me to call her other two sons and see what they can do about getting her out. Her bond was set at $3,000, they wanted $314 in cash to let her go. I accepted her first call and told her I would let them know. Immediately I called them and they said they would take the money over as soon as they got off work. Keep in mind they are all up in Illinois, we are in NC, so there was not much we could really do from here.
Not even 20 minutes goes by, she calls again. Like an idiot I accept the second call. She wants to know what they said and I told her they would be on their way as soon as they got off work. There was not much else for me to tell her so I told her to just be patient and they would be there soon. I made sure she knew that the calls we were accepting from there were going to be really high because of it being long distance and out of state. She said she would not call again unless there was a problem. I agreed and we hung up.
Just for the heck of it, I called CBS, the company that handles the calls going out of the jails, just to see what the rate on the calls would be. I didn't want to be in shock when I received the phone bill. Holy Christ! Each time we accept a call from that jail, it is going to cost us $17.30 plus tax!
Not even an hour goes by and she calls again! I tried my best not to even answer it, but something told me I had better, since she said she would not call again unless there was a problem. The problem was that she wanted to know why they were not there yet. So now she is into us for almost $60 worth of calls.
What in the world possesses people to do such stupid stuff? I just don't understand. Believe it or not, all she took was food items. Yes, canned goods and stuff like that. She had food in her own apartment. I have known for so long that this woman needed help, but there is nothing I can do until she is ready to accept it and she quits the drinking and gambling. She has wasted her life pretty much away.
So, the stress of this and someone pulling out in front of us earlier almost causing us to crash. A friend that I never hear from unless she wants something calls asking to borrow money and my neighbors dog coming over and tearing up our yard has just about done me in. I know I must have scared the heck out of the girl who answered the phone at Taco Bell too cause I gave it to them for screwing up our order so bad it was not even recognizable. Maybe I should just down a couple of shots and go to bed.
Thanks for letting me vent.

I just read somewhere last week that calls from any jail/prison are rated 69% more than using your cell phone or landline.
I've been where you've been believe me. Years ago...I was friends with someone that seemed to always get in "trouble". Being a nice/caring person I'd talk to them on the phone. SURPRIZE first phone bill was over $400.00.
Along with being arrested people need to learn how to get themselves out w/out others help.....in most cases.
Sorry it happened to you. Just let the phone ring if she calls back. I do it all the time. Since my mother's death there's been people coming out of the woodwork. Most of whom I don't want to talk to...turn the ringer off and tell those that really want to talk to you call on your cell phone if you have one.
LET IT RING, LET IT RING.....

You must have caller ID so the next time she calls, raise up your glass and LET IT RING!!!! Say "heres to you MIL" Thanx for the drink!!
Just take deep breaths and relax. Know that all will be better soon!!

Dang girl! Do NOT answer that phone again! It seems like all she does is cause problems for you and hubby. I'm sorry you're going thru this. I hope everything works out and oh ps....turn off da ringer!
Insert cute phrase here

As to the taco bell thing, I wont even go there anymore. They screwed up my order and were jerks about it so I called in to the corporate office to complain, waited a few weeks and called again wondering why they never called me. They said somehow they lost the report from the system and had no record of my call, so I go through it all again and they never called me back. If a company doesnt respond to my calls and emails I DONT go there anymore. And as to MIL and your friend who only calls when they want something...tell them both to get a life. I believe as a Christian I have a responsibility to try and help people but I I KNOW that they are not trying to help themselves...I wont help them. I believe in giving a hand up not out. And most people who know that someone will always be there to bail them out or get them out of a jam never grow up and dont learn to take care of themselves. Just My thoughts for what its worth.

Dont take the calls anymore. She's an adult, let her take responsibility for herself.

Don't feel bad about not taking any more calls. You did what you could by letting her sons know. She can wait till they get off work and call them at home. They're closer than you are and can help her. I hope you have a stress free day tommorrow. Maybe you can do something with just you and your family to relax.

I agree with everyone else. DON"T ANSWER. Let her sit there and think about what she has done.

jail
If my own mother or child or anyone else had been caught red handed stealing, then they could just sit in jail until their court date or are given an I bond. The fact that she needs bail tells me this is not her first encounter. Say goodbye to rubbish. You dont need the trash.
