If the 'fiercer' dog attacks, sure we can say it's the Owner's fault ultimately, they didn't train nor control the animal properly and the dog 'pays' in the end. There's the blame, but let's now solve the problem.
If there were 'special licensing' to have these dogs, would it not make for a more responsible owner? In other words, not just anyone can own this type of dog?
This would eliminate (if not seriously reduce) the incidence of people owning these dogs for the wrong reason (drug dealers, pit fighting, status, etc.). If they had to produce a 'special license' or be fined and have the dog confiscated, they'd be less out in the 'open'. Of course the 'special license' would dictate and have guidelines as to how these animals should be treated...(not chained, left outside unmuzzled, etc.). I think any responsible dog owner who loves the breed would follow the rules in which to own them.
Would that be fair to all?
yes that sounds fair but its easier for places to just ban them then have to deal with policing who has a license and who doesnt,backyard breeders would still exisist unfortunatly...the only thing that will help these dogs are stiffer punishments for people caught fighting them or using them for any other unappropriate purpose...then the popularity of the breed will die back down and the serious breeders can concentrate on the great lines that are out there.

they CAN breed...you see pit/chis here all the time..and pit/doxies just goes to show how many irresponsible people own these dogs

wow ya know when i want to find a pit/chi i cant..when my mom was looking for a chihuahua they were everywhere....you would be suprised what can be mixed with a chi though..labs...shepards...english bulldogs..boxers..or how bout this puppy..his mom is a beagle/husky/chi and his daddy is a dobbie...
