Have YOU ever been to jail??
I posted this about Paris Hilton, but then decided to start a new thread and was just curious as to how screwed up our legal system is by putting nonviolent people in prison. Let's not forget about the ones who years later are found innocent.
Re: Paris Hilton gets jail time
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I saw on cnn last nite about this and although I am not a Paris Hilton fan or anything, I must comment. Unless you have been to jail, you don't know what it is like. I saw the prosecutor and others saying that 45 days is a fair sentence, but I would bet a million dollars none of them have ever stepped foot on the other side of those bars.
I went to jail for a few days to "make an example of". It stemmed from a nonviolent ridiculous thing and is being appealed. I have never been rich or a socialite. I had to work for everything I have gotten. I am a taxpayer and law abiding citizen. Yet what happened to me was insane. Without going way into this horrible memory, I spent 4 days in jail while I was 8 months pregnant. My doctor told me that I was on bedrest and couldn't travel. My court was scheduled for 500 miles away. I had a notarized doctor's note yet the *****&^# judge sentenced me anyway. He said I couldn't miss his court for ANY reason. My attorney had already told me that it was O.K. and that it would be continued. LONG story short, I was locked up for a few days, not given ANY medications or even water beyond the little juicy sippers with their dogfood meals. IT was PURE HELL!!! Paper thin steel beds and 8 months pregnant did not fit very well. The whole place was on "lockdown" the entire time, so no activity outside the cell. It was the first time I had ever been to jail or anything like it. Jail is not the place for nonviolent people.
Just hope you never become unfortunate enough to have dealing with police, judges, etc. ANYONE under the microscope of the police and they will try to make you look bad. I don't believe anyone has the right to judge others except for the ALMIGHTY. So judges, I believe are going to be held most accountable for the lives they sat in judgement of.
By the way, in my twenties, I was hit by a drunk driver so I think I have a right to air my opinion here. I had to basically be put back together while in Surgical Intensive critical care. I have so much metal in me that it is really sad. But I am blessed to still be alive through it all and be able to live and breathe and have a blessed wonderful family. However, again, of all the pain I went through, I still say that JAIL or PRISON is NOT for the nonviolent acts.

Re: Have YOU ever been to jail??
That would be horrible to be 8 months pregnant and be in jail! Did the rest of the pregnancy go ok?
I was hoping Paris would not get jail. She is not violent and 45 days is a long time. I think people are jealous of her because she is rich, thin, pretty and popular. She still has feelings, she has a mother, sister and brother. Not too unlike our own families. I would not have wanted cameras following me around in my 20's. I know I made my fair share of embarassing mistakes.
Me and my little boys will be BLACK BELTS in 2007!

Re: Have YOU ever been to jail??
Ive never been in jail & dont plan on it any time soon either. I have had a few ex b.friends who sat in jail & one i put there. As for Paris...boo hoo Not...she did the crime then she pays the price. If i would of done what she did im sure my ass would be sitting in jail. She's just a rich snob who thinks she can do what she wants..Nice to see the Judge didnt think so.

So what's the judicial system supposed to do with people who break the law by violating their probation? I doubt that the judge sent her to jail because he is jealous of her. People are on probation for a reason and when they can't even follow those simple rules, the next step is (and should be) jail.
Yes I have been there.. don't wanna go back either, but I can tell you that if I violated my probation, they would have slapped my butt in jail right then and there with no questions asked. I wouldn't get a few months to get my affairs in order.
I for one am not jealous of her. I think she needs to follow the rules just like I do and I don't care how much money her family has.

Re: Have YOU ever been to jail??
I've worked in a jail, I was the booking nurse so everyone who came in saw me. Now I am a paralegal. As far as Paris Hilton goes, I think she got what she deserves. Too many of the rich and famous thumb their nose at the system because they feel that they should be able buy their way out. She even showed up at her hearing 10 minutes late. Driving on a suspended license here in FL is automatic jail time and so is a DUI.

Re: Have YOU ever been to jail??
I've been in jail a few times, no longer than a 10 day stretch tho. It wasn't nice, but it wasn't so bad either. Mostly I just read and stuff.
And like butterfly said, she's no better than anyone else. If I have to follow the rules so does she. And everyone else.

never been to jail and never want to be. I think Paris Hilton gets what she deserves. And I betcha she won't spend the whole 45 days there either. IMHO
Insert cute phrase here

I have never been to jail..and plan on minding my own business so hopefully never will end up there..lol.As for Paris Hilton there should not be special privileges for when she chooses not to do what the law stated she was to do.She did the crime~she should have followed what she was instructed to do the same as the rest of us would have had to do!She was given her fair share of chances she chose to do as she pleased~she got exactly what she deserved and exactly what we all would have gotten.I am by far NOT jealous of her~she just is not above the law and she needs to realize that!

Re: Have YOU ever been to jail??
I went for one night when I was 19- drunk and disorderly (I was innocent, haha) was with a friend of mine and I hate to say this but we had a great time probably cuz we were drunk. Those were the days.
I think Paris got what she deserved. I think she should have gotten more just for saying she didn't realize her license was suspended. She just thinks she's above not being able to do whatever the hell she wants.
