i say kill the dang dog! what is wrong with people?
IF it's deemed dangerous? um, i think that's already been established. i think i need to run for some kind of office where i can get a say in this nonsense.
Racehorse attacked by pit bull
Diesel, who is set to race in this weekend’s Stoneybrook Steeplechase, was attacked by a neighbor’s dog.
ASHLEY HEIGHTS — Casey Rounds and her racehorse took the ride of their lives Sunday when they were chased — and the horse attacked — by a pit bull in western Hoke County.
The 12-year-old girl and her 8-year-old horse, Diesel, were riding along Reservation Road on their way back from the Carolina Horse Park, said Casey’s mother, Michele Rounds. Diesel is to race in Saturday’s Stoneybrook Steeplechase.
Michelle Rounds and a friend also were on horseback when the dog began to chase them. When they reached Army Road, the trio was forced to stop because of oncoming traffic. Casey turned her horse to face the dog, hoping it would back away, she said.
The dog attacked Diesel, puncturing his left chest twice before the horse reared and Casey swung herself off.
After dismounting, Casey stood her ground while Diesel took another blow from the dog, leaving a four-inch piece of skin hanging from the horse’s chest. Casey was unharmed.
Diesel galloped down the center line of Army Road with the dog in pursuit, until the dog couldn’t keep up, Rounds said. Diesel eventually found his way home.
“I was thinking that this was a nightmare,” Rounds said. “This was a nightmare unfolding before my eyes. What if that had been Casey? It so could have been her if she had turned and ran. In a way, Diesel saved her.”
Dog quarantined
The county’s Animal Control Department put the dog in quarantine for 10 days. Cynthia Oxendine, the Health Department’s interim director, said the dog’s fate is unclear. Oxendine said she and two animal control officers will meet to decide whether the dog should be deemed a threat under the county’s dangerous dog ordinance.
The ordinance was adopted in February after a pit bull attacked a 10-year-old boy in his neighborhood in October. The boy suffered 21 puncture wounds.
If a dog is deemed potentially dangerous, Oxendine said, the county requires it be micro-chipped and kept in a pen unless it’s on a leash and wears a muzzle. The owners have to obtain $100,000 in liability insurance.
“It’s harsh punishment,” Oxendine said.
Officers have been in contact with the dog’s owners, Oxendine said.
Diesel’s wounds are healing. Casey still plans to race him in the first event at the Stoneybrook Steeplechase. Rounds is thankful the injuries weren’t worse but believes the dog should be off the streets for good.
“I wanted the dog dead,” she said. “I don’t think an animal should have a second chance to attack a person or another animal.”

Its not the dogs fault, but rather the owners that couldn't keep their dog under control/locked up.
If you notice, the dog only went after another animal, not the human. Pit bulls were bred to be "other animal" aggresive.
Its horrible that the horse has to suffer as a result of the the negligent actions of the pitbulls owner.

I am on the other spectrum on this one .. I like pitt bulls .. I don't own one nor would I cause I have children, but I don't judge people who do own one. I believe pitts behave they way they do due to the way they are bred or raised .. some pitts are bred wrong and many are raised wrong.
I personally think any animal that attacks another without being provoked should be destroyed. If the animal is being provoked, than that is in their nature, like a way of protecting themselves.
They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them, but then an entire life to forget them. Distance and time may separate us but friendship and memories won't.

kill the owners not the dog. Pitt bulls can be as sweet and loving as any dog, I have had them. However if the damn government would arrest the owners and place jail time on them for allowing their animal to roam then maybe people would have 2nd thoughts about not keeping the pet under control.

So should we kill the child molesters parents? I believe it is in their blood to be aggresive and it is a proven fact. Many homeowner insurance policies wont cover pit bull owners.
