Thread: Why are they in school??

Immersion is often thought to be one of the best ways to learn a language. These kids probably know exactly what you are saying to them (especially if they have been in the school system for awhile) and are probably playin' dumb because we expect them to NOT know the language.

I agree with the poster that said that said the "sink or swim" method seemed to work out the best. Let's go back to that.

If you are frustrated now, wait until these kids you speak of take the same type of job that your son/daughter gets, but gets paid more because they are bilingual.

I am all for LEGAL immigration, but I have issues with illegal immigrants. However, if I were trying to make things the best I could for my family, and I knew that I could find work in the US even though I was a Mexican national (or Zambian, or Rowandan, or WHATEVER) I would do what was best for my family. I guess I can see both sides of the coin. IF Mexico would make the standard for living there better, we wouldn't have these problems. I mean really, how often do you hear of the illegal CANADIAN immigrants coming over and taking our jobs??? The majority of the Canandians that choose to live here, do it the LEGAL way because they generally aren't escaping from some impoverished lifestyle.

Ok, do you know how much is the minimum wage in Mexico?
What is it here, $5.50 or so per hour? Well, in Mexico it is $5 .... PER DAY. Sooo if you are going to work 6 days a week, that is $30 A WEEK. Then you have to pay for transportation, rent, food diapers , milk,and clothing.... out of those $30 per week. And you wonder why they come here to work? Because even if it is hard labor ,they make in a day, more than what they would make in a week.And their families have better lives because of it. They dont come here wishing to take away your job from you, they come here wishing their families have food to eat, clothes to wear and a school to go to, so when they grow up, they dont have to go through what their parents did.
