The cops were called on my kids and their friends

Ok it is summer time and the kids have one more week left for summer vacation well yesterday my kids and their friends were playing out side ridding gas scooters up and down the street mind you this is 1 pm in the afternoon. And the lady up the street called the police on the kids.

How could she be so mean. The police tried to tell us the kids could not ride the scooters she even called the watch commander and he told her the kids were not breaking the law and to just let them play and to go tell the lady that called the kids had the right to ride their scooter so they did and every time they had to go by the lady house she would come out and look at all 5 kids riding scooters my two and 3 friends.

I had some little old ladies behind me that when my kids were little came into my yard, in the afternoon, & told me that they were making too much noise sqealing in their kiddie pool. Two kids, ages 5 & 9. Can you belive that? Some people have too much time on thier hands.

around here most towns have passed ordinances that won't allow them on the streets. so most people that have those scooters that aren't "registered and tagged" can't really use them, lol since the main reason most people i know bought them was for their kids to ride to school.

trust me i know how annoying it can be. people will call us with the stupidest stuff, and i just sit there thinking, DAMN I WISH MY LIFE WAS SO BORING THAT I HAD TIME TO WORRY ABOUT WHAT SOMEONE ELSES KIDS ARE DOING.

    sorry that happened

How old are the kids? We have a lot of those going by our house and I've called the police before only because the kids, in my opinion, were too young to be on them, not obeying the stop sign at the busy intersection by our house. I can just see one of them getting hit. But just to call the police because she doesn't like the scooters is a bit much.

The police in North Carolina are VERY strict, they write tickets for everything and anything so I would be careful! (especially if it is Charlotte)

    I'm confused......
The POLICE told you the kids could NOT ride them.......but the watch commander says its ok? Whats a watch commander? Is he above the police?

If I am not mistaken the watch commander is the cop in charge for the shift. He has final say as to if officers should give chase and when to stop.

the kids are 14 and 15 years old. and the police officer said she was sure it if the kids could ride them. we told her we talked to the police before we bought them and the law says they have to have follow the same laws as people ridding a bikes and she looked it up in the their laws book they have and she said we were right. the watch commander told her the same thing. we have no law in north Carolina staying they can't ride scooters.

Have you talked to the lady in person? Might be two sides to why she called.
I have found a lot of fights can be stopped if each side would just talk.

Re: The cops were called on my kids and their friends

I know in Detroit and various suburbs those scooters and lowrider motorbikes are banned for good reason. You can only ride them on your proprty, thus it is illegal to do so on the sidewalk and streets. Cops in some suburbs were actually writing tickets. I see kids zooming up and down the street without helmets and doing pop-a-wheelies. I might not have such a problem if the children were supervised and properly equipped safetywise, but the majority aren't.

they are not like the mini bikes they look like the stand up scooter the kids use to push with thier feet but they have seets on them. this is how they look

and we have tried to talk to the lady and all she says is the kids sould not be out playing she called the police again this afternoon and the police told her the kids are just fine and they are not doing anything wrong and not to call again.
