Health Insurance
I am sorry, I know this is probably a tender subject and maybe a repeat, BUT enough is enough!
WHY is it in USA that if you have NO health insurance they give you tylonol (or any asprin) frown, turning cold, and send you home no matter what the issue???????????
I luckily have United Health Care, but who knows for how long. The price keeps going up and taking more and more of my check! (Its just harder and harder on insurance holders too, pretty soon we will be paying 95% of the doctor bill and 95% back to them....totaling well over 100%!)
I had to post this because of the poor one who has the spider bite in here and not to mention my friend who miscarried, and the doctors seemed to not care and told her to just go home and wait it out! I mean I understand not much can be done, but atleast comfort her and help her through it perhaps? This is just crazy!
Well, thanks for letting me vent this out and hope some of you, if not all, feel the same!

Re: Health Insurance
I'd like to know why I pay $70 for a Dr. visit after losing my insurance, (after begging for a reduced rate) but when I had BC/BS, I paid a $10 copay and BC/BS paid $30 totally $40. That is a $30 difference for the same doc at the same practice.
I have never been treated poorly or unfairly for not having insurance. My kids were treated as well as all the others who had it as well. I think the difference might be the area you live. here the mentality of medical providers is if you need care you get it. (for the most part)

Re: Health Insurance
The problem is privatized health care. It's all about the profit, rather than patient care. One does not see this happening in countries that provide its citizens with national health care. Contrary to popular belief one does not wait months for procedures or surgeries in a socialist system such as Canada or Europe. These countries may have higher tax rates, but in the long run these people are provided for by their government in the form of excellent health care, welfare programs, and so forth.

Re: Health Insurance
They pay about the same for gas that we do except we get a gallon and they get a liter. The tax on gas is high but in alot of the european countries, the tax pays for or subsudizes the health care system. All we get are billionair CEOs.

Re: Health Insurance
Where I live there are some hospitals that will treat you if you have no insurance. There are also some that will not. They will either tell you that they cannot see you or they will put you in an ambulance and send you somewhere else. Of course the waiting time is horrendously long at the hospitals that treat those without insurance. My health insurance has a contract with only 2 hospitals in the area. It's not very convenient, but when I went to the ER a month ago, I was out in less than 2 hours.

Re: Health Insurance
That is painful subject. This year my insurance went up $200 , and I have no choice, but to pay as I’m pregnant. That is totally ridiculous, it never was like this, they usually raise prices by $50-$80, never by $200 Let me tell you, when I got my bill, my blood pressure went up, and all other kinds of stuff start happening, so I end up in the hospital, strap to all kinds of monitors and doing all kinds of very expensive tests...lol

You are wrong in you comment:
My in laws are from Canada: and only in serious life threatening emregnecies do you not have to wait months for treatment. And for those emergencies, you may have top be flown several hours away to gey a doctor who can do them.
The wait list for various treatments may be up to 18 months. The welfare system in Canada is currently under review due to mishandling and abuse. The healthcare professionals are not paid well, and many are leaving to come and work in the USA. Medicines are sold freely, and are not as powerful as the ones regulated here.

I currently work at a doctor's office, where our self pay prices are lower than any insurance fee. The fights we have with insurance make it where we end up convincing people to just pay the self pay rates. Most people do not understand their insurance: the card may mention a co pay, but verification reveals a high deductible prior to the co pay taking affect. I have to explain this to people. Our BCBS rates, and Humana rates are higher than the self pay rates, based on a contract BCBS and Humana sent us. We did not set the rates, they did. We do not take United Health Care, or Unicare as they are slow to pay, or have high deductibles (one patient's deductible was $9000). Our office visit is $35 without insurance: Medicare is $36.16, BCBS is $42.37. One woman had BCBS with a $45 co pay: our rates are less than that. We do not ask for more than insurance will pay.
Many choose to just pay the self pay rates and submit the cost as a tax deduction.
By the way we are considered SPECIALISTS with all insurance companies. AND that co pay is different than a general practioner.
