...my belief in this "immigration" issue is that you want to be a american and THEN You have rights!!!! We are only country to let anyone and yes anyone come over take OUR jobs, OUR money, DONT pay our taxes, collect OUR welfare, OUR social services and they want rights???? Do we get the same treatment if we Americans go to another country NO NO NO!!! THats why america and AMERICANS are now the minorities black and whites!

Bash me if you want but I am TIRED of going or calling somewhere and I have spanish options..options for WHO>>>>>>THey came here and we didnt force them...so why do we AMERICANS have to give in to them....make them learn OUR language, get same pay, same treatment, same taxes then I might consider "rights". I am tired of going to a place and all you have their are non english speaking folks...

I dont care if you agree or not...if you dont like it here and dont like our LAWS then go back!!!! where you came from..or if you dont like it here and you call yourself an AMERICAN then you too should go somewhere else.

I absolutely 100% agree with you.

I think that they should start a new way for illegal immigrants to become an American citizen.... if you want to live here, it should be manditory for adults (18 to 35, men AND women) to join the military. Serve 5 years and you will get your citizinship papers. If this is such a great country, then defend it. They will get the same benefits as anyone else in the military. I know its not perfect as there will be reasons why the military wouldn't accept them (medical etc) but I would rather my taxes pay for ESL teachers to teach illegals in the military, rather than have them in the schools, taking my tax dollars away from my kids education. My taxes pay for an ESL teacher in each school, yet my kids don't get the benefits.

Oh boy don't get me started!

I am not going to bash anyone, I just say that this issue is not going away, & its not worth getting so upset about. I just try to worry about myself & my family (that is enough to keep me occupied right there). After all, God created the earth for everyone to live in, man was the one who put up borders & laws & such. If it were up to me, I think that anyone should be able to live & work wherever they choose. I really don't think that Hispanics take anyone's job, they have the jobs here that no one else wants. After all, they are not in corporate America, are they? As for speaking Spanish in a lot of places, I would really hate to know that I could not go anywhere in Europe & English would not be spoken. I wonder how they feel how that?

I am not just referring to the hispanics BUT all other foreigners. This should apply to ANYONE not born here in USA and migrates here.

I agree, but never forget that we were the invaders of this land. WE came in and made native americans learn english. WE made the mexicans in California, texas, arizona etc. learn english. I am sure there are families still in that area that have a very strong history of the region that did, infact, land there before we "americans" did.

I do believe that we are not a melting pot. We should not assimilate and loose our heritage because that does make us unique. BUT....we all should speak the same, and be for our country when we are at war, peace, etc.

I think this issue is out of control. Our borders need to be closed. Our cities are overpopulated and jobs are scarce and being outsourced.

Just for the record, I am only referring to illegal immigrants... not the ones who are or are working to abide by the immigration laws......

I am referring to hispanics and not afraid to say so! I am referring to them because we have a HUGE problem with illegal's here.. there are immigration laws for a reason. Follow the law and I don't have a problem. A law is a law... why is it ok for immigrants to break the law, but if I decided to go rob a bank, I would go to jail. No law is any more or less important than another.

Yes they are taking jobs away from US citizens. I can only speak for my town. They will work cheap and under the table so the company (and YES I also blame companies that do that) or the employee does not have to pay taxes... then they turn around and get on welfare thet they don't pay contribute to! Why should they get any government money at all?

As far as learning english.... if I moved to Germany and intended on making a life there, it makes sense to learn the language. Why should I expect Germans to work around me?

I've been to Mexico... and I do understand why hispanics come here... and I don't blame them... but why should they be allowed to live off my tax dollars and/or work for cash under the table? I am not saying that every single immigrant does this... but its done a LOT. Why does the governemt allow people who are here illegally get benefits at all? There are a lot of immigrants who come here because its a free ride.... hell, why NOT move here? If the governemt is going to give you a free ride, then go for it

A lady 3 houses down from me lives rent free (on section 8) gets TANF, foodstamps and medical care for her kids. Shes been here 6 years, has never worked and is an illegal immigrant and she flaunts the fact that shes living this way... proud that shes working the system (and yes I know americans do the same thing, but that an entirely different thread). Why is that fair to my other neighbor who was a Ford employee for 6 years and laid off work, yet can't find a job OR get state benefits to help his family?

Why are my taxes used to teach hispanic children in their language, rather than teaching them english so that they can learn in a regular english learning environment? There are THREE classes at my kids' school that teach the kids american lessons in their own language.... it makes absolutely no sense.... even the teachers who teach at that school are irritated by it.

Like I said... there are laws for a reason. I have no problem with immigrants who come here and follow them.. its the ones who are here for a free ride that I am irritated by.

Immigration will never stop. ANd the number 1 reason is the ALMIGHTY DOLLAR. They come & work for pennies on a dollar, and then they spend money on rent, cars, etc... I know it sucks, but thats they way it will be...

Back in the day, when there was such a migration movenemnt from the Irish here, people flipped out too.

My deal is, when my family came here from Ireland & Germany, they had to stay on Ellis Island for nearly a week, to make sure that they were free of mental illness, disease, etc... Now you just have to hop a border, have a baby in the US & your in forever!

I loved in Arizona for a long time, and my big issue there was, there were so many illegals, yet they could still get cars, apartments, etc... If WE as AMERICANS wanted it to stop, then we wouldn't sell them cars, give them jobs, or rent them housing... but what matters most to us AMERICANS is not our freedom, not immigration issues.. ITS THE ALMIGHTY DOLLAR!!!

If you really have to take a stand, then Boycott places that obviously use Illegals, don't buy a car from a place that sells to illegals, don't shop @ Wal-Mart who uses illegals to clean stores, etc... If we really did Boycott all these places, we'd better move to the country buy a horse & buggy & start growing our own food, raising our own cattle, for food & clothes...

MONEY IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL!!!!

I also served in the NAVY and we did have alot of immigrants who served proudly for the US.

Its a double - edged sword and its never gonna change!

Gotta put in my pennys worth. Illegals by definition have already broken the law which is reason enough to deport them. I find it astounding that they can be here and reap more benefits than me or my children. My husband severd in the Air Force and I the Army but we are entitled to nothing. I am only looking for a fair playing field. Illegals and minorities get free college while my oldest will get a BS degree and have over $50K in debt to student loans and he has an acedemic scholarship. It will much higher as he plans on earning his Phd. Our country forgets that we, the taxpayers, and most are working hard just to stay afloat yet these dollars go to support those who do not have the same work ethic as most taxpayers. In addition we send close to a Trillion dollars overseas for various handouts and political moves. Like Egypt getting $7 million dollars to recognize Isreal as a state. It has been 25 years so why do we continue to give them $7 million dollars? How is it that we were able to send assistance to the tsunami victims inside 24 hours yet we had people in Mississippi, Louisiana, Florida dying after 6 days of waiting for help after Katrina. We cleaned up thailand and Sri Lanka yet New Orleans is still a mess as we approach her 1 year anniversary.

There is one way we can change this. Register to vote and then vote. Do not vote democrat or reublican or independant. Vote for the better man. Or better yet get yourself on the ballot and run. Volunteer for the person you believe that feels the way you do. Get others to vote. Let them know in our state houses and on Capitol Hill that we pay for this and we are sick and tired of helping others while our own citizens go without. We want our money spent wisely. We want to pay as we go. Make our politicans know that they will not be in office if they do not do it our way. How is it our government spends like crazy when they have no money but we cannot. There is power in voting and lets start flexing our muscle.

Last tuesday was the primary. Here in Chicago only 22% of registered voters showed up at the polls. How sad. We say we are Americans yet we do not want to do our basic civil duty which is to vote and serve on a jury. God forbid should I or any of you reading this need a jury. Do you want a jury pool of your peers or of only those that want the $27 a day. Besides I recently read that they no longer use the voter registry for juries but rather the DMV. How many of you would give up your license not to be on a jury? Why give up your voice, your vote?

uh, hello!?!?! I work at a, let's say - a very old, very "colorful" computer company, and right now if you are hispanic it takes you right to the top (and I do mean like by rocketship) - the only thing better is to be female and hispanic. Qualifications are not necessary. There are no sour grapes from me, I am comfortable with my job/status, it is just hard to watch hard working white guys get passed up time and time again for a guy who does not have enough sense not to f@rt in public, it is really sad. And ps - I am tired of getting mad ofmail that comes to me in spanish - just because I live in florida does not mean I speak it. try going to brazil (or anywhere) and tell them you want everything inenglish because it is "your right" and see if you live to see it happen.

I am also disgusted with the illegal immigrants in the US. They have broken the law by being here illegally. They are breaking the law when they work and are paid "under the table." They are NOT paying taxes. They are getting benefits that WE as Americans cannot get. I can't get welfare, housing, food stamps. I HAVE to pay taxes. The employers that hire illegals should also be fined VERY heavily and their business license revoked, then illegals would not have "day labor" jobs. I am sick of seeing these illegals gathered by the 7-11's, on the corners, in the shopping centers waiting for some stupid A--Holes to hire them. If a bunch of white people or black people would gather like these damn illegals, we would be arrested by the police for "loitering." What the heck is the difference? I am also sick of them moving 15 to 20 people in a house in MY neighborhood and drinking and partying all night long. Littering the entire neighborhood. THese idiots don't start partying until midnight. I will call the police every time I hear loud music, loud talking by these idiots in the middle of the night. Yes, idiots, if they want to live here in my neighborhood, then they should observe the neighbors and live like we do. My American neighbors do not party and drink Corona's all night long. Where do they get all this money to drink Corona or Heinken's and smoke cigarettes. THis stuff is expensive. There are 7 or 8 people living in a house in my neighborhood and only one woman works and another lady in the house babysits ONE child. Yet they drink and party at least 3 times a week. They want to stand outside and smoke, throwing butts all over the sidewalk. If you say anything to them, they reply..............NO ENGLISH. Well, take your non-english speaking a-- back to your country until you learn or at least want to learn english and PAY TAXES.

I also think it is a good idea as stated above, let them spend a tour in the service and then become a citizen if they still want to live here.

I could go on forever. I say send ALL ILLEGALS BACK TO WHERE THEY CAME FROM.............If they are legal and speak english then give them their citizenship and a tour in the military.

I do believe the OP made it clear that she was talking about people that are NOT citizens DEMANDING rights. These rights supercede OUR rights as US Citizens.

Yes, some of our ancestors did come and invade and take this land from the Native Americans, but that is history and nothing is going to change the fact and really has nothing to do with the subject.

As for illegal immigrants coming and taking jobs that no one else want to do....that is hogwash. Even those that come with the special visa's are taking our jobs. The reason is because they will do the jobs for less than what we will do them for and if the employers can get away with it, this is money they are not having to pay payroll taxes on. I have worked at varied types of jobs and I was not too good to do any of them and would do them again if I needed a job. Oh, but wait, I won't get that job because some unscrupulous employer is using illegal immigrants to do the job at half the cost.

When the government cracked down on illegal immigration back in the 80's the only industry to feel the pain was the farmers out west that relied on those people to come and harvest their crops. You did not find an increase in job openings due to the crack downs.

Now, don't get me wrong. I have no problem with immigration, there just needs to be a better control of it and also better protection of our borders. Right now though, there is not enough room or jobs to allow too many immigrants. Should I change my opinion because other countries are crappier than ours and everyone wants to come to the good Ole US of A? Our own CITIZENS are what is important and what should come FIRST. With NAFTA, too many of our jobs have gone over seas.
