That was a funny comment about being Lazy-because the easiest recess of all is OUTSIDE, inside recess is too much work. But if that teacher were to say " who knows, I told them I felt like we should be outside" she would be in BIG TROUBLE for not following the line.

Remember most teachers love kids, want what is best for kids.
Well at our school the teachers decide whether or not they want to take the kids outside during recess, not the office. The other K classes went out to recess and I know the playground was dry because I checked it. Trust me, my son's teachers are LAZY. We went on a field trip to the pumpkin patch back in October and as soon as we got there, I was put in charge of the kids b/c the teachers didn't feel like having to deal with them. I was the one that kept the kids together and took them from activity to activity. I was the one that loaded the pumpkins on the buses etc.
It's not often that I will accuse a teacher of being lazy but in this case, the shoe definitely fits.

Here, in Western KY, we NEVER get anything back. In kindergarten we didnt get a supply list at the beginning of the year, just a note every so often that they needed whatever. Not a problem. Then, in 1st grade, it started. I had two in grade school at one time and was spending $30-$40 EACH on supplies. I really didnt mind IF THEY USED THEM, but if every child is bringing 3 boxes of zipper bags, what are they doing with them? I never saw any come back to my house.

We do not send the extra supplie shome here. And, our supply list isprinted with the following in BOLD, LARGE LETTERS on the top and bottom os each list:
This is a suggested supply list. What you can send off the list will go into a classroom set for the class to use together.

A paragraph continues explaining how many children can not afford the long list, so we suggest the entire list instead of deman. Many parents will buy extra, some can not afford more than a few pencils. But they know in adance that it is all for class use.

If something does need to be just for that child (homework folders, and stuff) that is listed and needs labeled for each student.

The teachers send home wish lists every six weeks to inform the parents what needs replenishing in the class. Some parents can send things, others cannot. But we refuse to say that Billy can not color or glue becuase his parents can not afford it. With nothing labeled (crayons, glue, paper, pencils, etc) no one knows who could not afford it and who could.

I completely understand where you're coming from. We moved from AZ to GA 6 weeks after school started. The last day Hayden was in school in AZ, I sent a note to return ALL the supplies I had sent in. When I picked him up, all he had was a pencil box, 6 broken crayons and 1 pencil. I politely asked the teacher's aid for them back and was told they were classroom property. Uh, no, they're not. I bought them for my child to use and I will take them to his next school. I had to threaten to get the principal involved to get them back. When we got to GA, I asked what supplies he needed and was shocked when the school said nothing but a backpack. Our school here is great. Hayden goes to the best school in the district.

I'm glad I don't have to deal with that. It is illegal here to demand parents to supply the classroom. The teachers can ask for donations, and I got a pretty hefty list from Lyndon's teacher this year, but I don't feel bad that all I sent were a few glue sticks. His teacher was an art major, so she has the class doing tons of art stuff, and that's the stuff she wanted.

wow, I would never turn my class over to a mother. NEVER. I am the one responsible, I cannot believe your son's teacher did that on a field trip. If we needed small groups - I may ask a parent to watch 2-3 kids at a time, but I would do all the loading and unloading and decision making.

Hey NewWiccan I live in Ga. Where do you live at . Just curious. I understand your position but, remember that teacher's do not get paid a lot of money (or they do not get paid what they are worth here). Just remember that.

    thanks

I'm glad I don't have a kid in school. The supplies my brother & his wife buy for the kids can really put a dent in a person's budget.

LOL, yes Angel that is $20 per student. And mind you, we have 26 students in my daughter's class. That is a nice Christmas gift, I'll tell ya. And some of the parents give more! I thought that I would get away with not having to do this after kindergarten but the same thing happened with the first grade teacher. My kids have been in three different schools in three different states and I have NEVER gotten any school supplies returned. I've had requests for more in the middle of the school year, but if a teacher actually returned supplies to me, I think I'd faint from shock. Don't get me wrong, I don't really mind sending the stuff that they need, but when they start asking for scotch brand packing tape--brand name only, plus scotch brand gift tape--brand name only, crayola markers--brand name only, crayola coloring pencils--brand name only--etc, I get a little upset because I'm a bargain shopper. I had one teacher specify the brand name of each item on the list except for the paper towels and tissues. Name brands can be double the price, sometimes more. I know I have bought about six pair of scissors since my kids started school here. Have I gotten even ONE pair back? Uh-uh. Where could they all possibly be??? I mean, is she Edward Scissorhands now? Lord of the Scissors? They could be nice and send the stuff that you have to keep buying year after year home. Scissors don't wear out that easily.
    So berry happy!!!

All I can say is I would have been the only parent to send in $5 and call it a day

Oh my gosh that is the funniest thing I have ever heard! LMAO

UGH and another pet peeve of mine has to do with my daughter. She gets to keep all her supplies(pencils, ruler, sharpener, etc.) in her backpack. Well it irkes me to no end for her classmates to bug her wanting to borrow something when those very same kids have $10 a week to spend on icecream and the concession stand!!!!! I told her to tell them that the walmart I got all her supplies at is open to the public and that me their moms can go there and buy the same school supplies that I did.
