I agree that cell phones should not be used during a movie but I will NOT turn mine off. When my son is not with me and I go to the movies I keep it on vibrate and if it goes off I will leave the room. People are rude who take a call during the movie, no reason why they can't leave and come back when they are finished but I feel it's wrong for the theater to demand they be shut off

We all have emergencies. I understand WHY he had it on (vibrate). But I got annoyed after he kept taking call after call. It was obvious he was conducting business....I agree....take it outside...

Re: Shut your cell phone off at the movies....
No cell phones in movies, churches, funeral, court or any other place where the noise would be inappropriate. If you are a doctor and are on call, leave it on vibrate and take your call to the lobby.
It is at best annoying and there are some places the should be basically banned.

Re: Shut your cell phone off at the movies....
I wish ppl who use their phones would figure out that the rest of us don't give a hoot about their convos... I've resorted to having the manager paged every time I hear one ring. It used to annoy me but I'd ignore it... however, the last time we were at the movies someone was using their tmobile walkie talkie feature during the movie... I was pissed to say the least... we go to a theatre that is also a restaraunt and it costs a fortune to go there and I do NOT spend that kind of money to hear BOTH SIDES of a conversation... so now every time I hear a cell ring and a phone go to an ear I turn the little red flashy thing on and have the manager sent over. Yes, I am 27 and a tattle tale... but when those cell users start paying for my admission and dinner then I will stop complaining.

Ohhh I want a theatre that is a restaurant too!
I'm getting tired of going to the movies though, we always have to sit in the 2nd row b/c hubby is legally blind. It hurts my eyes and gives me a headache lately.
Sorry for complaining in your thread!

Re: Shut your cell phone off at the movies....
I want to know why anyone would use their cell phone in a public place for a non-emergency reason. I find it totally annoying to be subjected to someone else's personal conversations.
My best friend Beth and I were in line at Target last summer. The young woman in front of us was on her cell phone, discussing how she had apparently had some random fling with a guy, got worried about being pregnant and had gone to be tested.
When we got through the line (yes, she even talked while the checker was ringing up her items), the woman stopped to put her phone away. Beth asked her how long it would be until she found out whether she was pregnant or not. The woman started screaming and yelling at us about being rude and meddling. She was so loud that someone from Target asked her to leave the store.

Re: Shut your cell phone off at the movies....
I will turn our cells to vibrate mode when dining out, seeing a movie or at the theater. I won't turn them off though just in case the sitter needs to reach us in case of an emergency. But at the same time I will not take the call where it will disrupt others around us.
We always let out sitter know that if they need to call, it will either take a couple of minutes to be able to take the call if we are to where we can't answer.... so they know we will call them right back.
I hate it when your out and all around you there are people yacking on their cell phones.
Ever notice when your in a restaraunt that when a phone rings you got about 3 dozen people grabbing to see if it's theirs thats ringing

Re: Shut your cell phone off at the movies....
One of the big cell phone problems is parents giving them to teens to indiscriminate use. If you give a kid a cell, they are going to use it. A lot.
There is zero reason for someone under the age of 16 to have a cell phone.
I am 20 amd I don't have a cell phone. If I am not home, I will call you back when I am.

I take my cell every where. and no i can not live 120 minutes with out it.. expecially if my children are not with me. I do leave it where it vibrates not sound when i at the movies...But having a serverly disable child and another that has health issues... its very important to always have a phone with me.. But i have a right to get a break once a year( if i get that) and my phone will come right along with me..
