Is anyone else's state voting for an amendment to not recognize same sex marriages?
We're voting this Saturday, the 18th. Please pray for this situation. I live in Louisiana. Is anyone else's state doing this too?

Never mind, I read the subject line wrong. Thought it was about early voting.

Louisiana joins Missouri, where voters approved a similar amendment by a 70 percent majority Aug. 3, and four other states that had previously adopted constitutional marriage bans: Alaska, Hawaii, Nebraska and Nevada.
Voters in eleven more states likely will decide on similar amendments when they go to the polls Nov. 2: Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, Ohio (pending verification of petitions), Oklahoma, Oregon and Utah.

Tennessee has not yet offered the chance to vote for the admendment. We have had several groups going around with petitions though. I think since it has been passed back to the states....it should be voted on by the people.
If same sex marriage is recognized in just one out of our 50 states....then if the "couple" moves to another state...that state is forced to recognize the "marriage". I truly do not think this is right. For this reason I do support a national admendment.

It passed in LA by a wide margin (76% ) with only 27% registared voters taking to the polls. It is headed for an appeal based on the fact that in Orleans Parish, the most active is trying to defeat this, was not set up with the polling machines in a timely fashion. Some places did not open until after 11:00 am. This was during the crisis with Ivan when New Orleans was evacuated and people not allowed to return until Friday. The Saturday election could have been delayed but the Sec. of State refused to allow it.

Re: Is anyone else's state voting for an amendment to not recognize same sex marriages?
I live in Louisiana and although I do believe in God's plan of man and woman (I am married w/ children), my best friend is a lesbian and has said that she will go to another state where they do aprove lesbian marriage should she choose to ever marry again. (she was married to a man once and has two kids). I don't have anything against her, being that it isn't me that is doing it so I quess you can say I am not sure which way I would vote if they decide to revote on this subject.

In Nebraska, the ACLU is challenging the ban on gay marriage. (I have a net friend who lives there, that is where this info comes from)
I had *heard* that Kansas has already voted on the issue, but can't find anything to support that. All I can find is that Missouri was the 2nd state to vote on the issue and KS wasn't the first.

I too live in Louisiana...
I would like to know why Britney Spears or any one else can marry who they want, for as short as they want..But two people who happen to be the same gender, and may have been together for 50 years, but they can not get married. And if they do, what does it have to do with my marriage?
I see people going without neccessities.a war that is killing our citizens that we were lied about...but we have to worry about what is esentually a tid bit to the religious right.
Our constitutions, State or Federal, should not be used to make discrimination law... the last time we did that, a war had to be fought to end it..slavery.
I also am married happily to a man..LOL..with two children and between his children and mine, we have 15 grandchildren. And I still do not see how any one else can make or break the sanctity of my marriage.

if you could provide some connection between slavery and same sex marriage....i could possibly understand you stand a bit better. i don't think our country will ever go to war over the rights of persons of the same sex wanting to get married.
i know a number of gay couples and i love them to death. but that does not change the fact that they are the same sex. if men were meant to be with men and women were meant to be with women....then why are we physically different?
i can understand the emotional side of same sex relationships, but, that doesn't change the facts. and whether we are discussing same sex marriage or heterosexual marriage....MARRIAGE is a union that should be taken seriously. unfortunately....too many people take it for granted and don't think before leaping. as for brittany.....i believe that was done on a drunken binge...at least that was my understanding. it just goes to show how inmature some people are when it comes to relationships.

We vote on this subject here (in Michigan) in November.
My husband and I signed the petition to get it on the ballot.
We will both be voting against same-sex marriages.
It's Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve.
