Is this my responsibility or what??
Man, when it rains it pours. I live in Ohio. In the past month this stuff has all happened. A tree fell and hit the house a month ago, came from behind the house on property the "CITY" owns but won't take care of. No damage that time... next the hot water tank blows up, had to get a new one, then Tuesday a tree falls and crushes the roof, another tree from behind the house on the "CITY" property, the insurance company still hasn't been her to look at it.... today another tree feel, hit the power lines and ripped the entire electric meter out of the side of the house, this tree is also on the "city" property and along the power lines, none of which is taken care of. the electric company tells us they are shutting our electric off until "we" put their meter back on the house???? What?? I don't understand that, grrrrr.....

As far as the meter. On my bill on the back it says "meter tampering is illegal-tampering with a meter is illegal and can cause property damage and serious personal injury. If you suspect that the meter has been tampered with, please report it to us. Your call will be kept confidential." So maybe if you call the electric company, maybe they will make the city take care of the meter cost. Since it was the cities trees, that caused the damage. Let your house insurance company go after the city for anything they have to fix on your house, due to the trees.

I looked up info for you and got this. "For unresolved inquiries call the PUCO at 1-800-686-7826. Another source of help for residential customers maybe the Ohio Consumers' Counsel at 1-877-742-5622" Also your Attorney General can help with the electric company and the problem with the city. I hope all this helps!

The power company will not put the meter back on your house. They never put the meter on the house to begin with. All the power company does is put the meter in the box when power is restored. ( I have been around contruction all my life. Plus I just had to put a box on my house & then the power company came out and put their meter in the box.) If the tree was on the cities property they should be liable for all damage caused to your home.
I believe what they mean by tapering is, If there's no power and someone cut the "key" to restore power to notify them, or if there's damage to the box to call them and they'll shut the power off going to the box so you can replace it without getting electricuted. (That's what they do in NC)

Alot of lawyers work FOR the city on various projects, so you may be hard pressed to find one to represent you. Fortunately for you, you have insurance who already HAS lawyers... I'm sure they'll fix your house, but they'll also go after the city.
