Thread: Do you know what t he word NO means????

Well, if you don't here's what the dictionary says: 1. Used to express refusal, denial, disbelief, emphasis, or disagreement: No, I'm not going. No, you're wrong.

2. Not at all; not by any degree. Often used with the comparative: no better; no more.

1. A negative response; a denial or refusal: The proposal produced only noes.

2. A negative vote or voter.

Long story but.............Almost every weekend Aggie is out in the front yard doing something. Well, that's a good oppertunity for all the 4 leggers to be in the yard and play. We have a front porch that's big enogh for all to be out there. We take out baby gates and put around the porch so they aren't out running a muck.

There's this neighbor that we have who's always borrowing tools from Aggie. He saw the boys and girls in their pen and asked if he could pet them. I said sure. I stated very clearly please don't pick them up. 2 out of the 4 don't like to be held unless they APPROACH YOU.

Hot Toddie (our smallest 2 1/4 lb. Toy Pomeranian) is the most hyper, playful, eager to please of any of them. HE DOESN'T LIKE TO BE HELD UNLESS HE COMES TO YOU. Otherwise it's only me he will come to when he wants to be held FOR ANYTHING!!!!!!

Aggie's outside w/this guy. I hear the LOUDEST YELP I'VE EVER HEARD. Here I go...........rolling out front. What do I see???? Hot Toddie on the concrete having convusions!!!!! Apparently the man didn't listen to what I said and picked him up, anyway. Toddie JUMPED out of his hands and he couldn't handle him.

Toddie is the pet that's had 2 broken legs from jumping off couch, nipped his tail in the door chasing ball, pulled out stitches when he was fixed. He's just really hyper. You have to watch him all your waking hours or he's in trouble somewhere.

Aggie scooped Toddie up and is at the vets now. Sorry, fella you're paying for the bill. We took everyone to the vet yesterday for shots and check-ups. We have a great vet that works w/us. She's going to be shocked. When we go in she even knows not to pick up Toddie. She has me go w/them and hold him or he follows.

He has a sweet temperment he's just independant. When we got him granted I wanted a "foo-foo dog to carry around. HELL NO. He's everywhere.

I can't believe that this happened. Whatever happened to listening to someone. If Toddie had/was a BIG dog I know he wouldn't of approached. I know curiousity kills the cat, but when I tell you PLEASE DON'T P/U HIM OR HER LISTEN TO ME.

I know my pets and their temperments. Likes/dislikes. I know Toddie didn't approach him in the pen. He was to busy goofing around the others.

He'll get the bill this afternoon weither he likes it or not. He should of listened to me.

Just think Aggie's leaving tomorrow for Ca. I'm leaving on Wednesday. I now have to explain to the person staying at our home what's up w/Toddie. I know he'll be on meds. This person won't/doesn't p/u Toddie. Feeds, lets in/out and that's it. Toddie and others pretty much know the routine and will get your attention if they wan't/need something.

If they want attention they'll come to you and let you know. Otherwise please leave them alone. They don't get hurt (usually) that way.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH-haven't seen the guy anymore, either. We probably won't for awhile, either.

LISTEN TO ME NEXT TIME, WILL YOU????? Things just seem to happen w/Toddie that don't to the others.

I think it's called selective listening and aren't all small dogs just naturally like babies and need to be picked up?? Your neighbor will have learned the hard way. Hope Todie doesn't come home in a body cast.

They're home, now. Toddie is on pain meds. Along w/a pulled muscle in his hind quarters. Back legs are wrapped up. Bill is over $250.00 and it sitting in neighbor's mailbox as I write this. I'M NOT PAYING FOR THIS. I asked him nicely, politly not to pick him up or play w/him-especially.

What do you want to bet this will be a knock down drag out???? "He was only trying to be friendly"..........I understand that Toddie doesn't!!!!!

Maybe he thought your "no" wasn't meant for him. Surely not, it must mean everybody else. I know the type. I always have to tell people not to pet a couple of my boys when we're out in public. Usually they don't listen. That is until Buck starts to bear his teeth, growl and bark. Then they don't pet any of the boys. LOL.

Truth is you never know what a dog will do in any given situation with a stranger (to them). I won't ever let anyone hold any of my boys. If they squirmed and jumped they could be seriously hurt--just like Toddy. My feeling on this is what if this were a child? If you tell someone not to touch or pick up your child, would they still do it? I think not. So why is okay when it's a dog instead of a child? The other side of that is how do you know when you pick up a dog that doesn't know you, that you're not going to be the one getting hurt? Especially since small, high strung dogs tend to bite when they're afraid or startled. That guy just has no common sense!

You're absolutly correct on all points. I'm not sure what this guy was thinking I said. We both know about the mirror thing he does at night. Now, it's funny to watch but, that has to say something about his personality.

If that's not a high strung pet I'm not sure what is. Been loafing around for awhile and managed to eat a little. Staying clear of everyone and everything else. He's going into his crate (you know he never does that) on his own and just crying. There's nothing I can do for him. Medicine is knocking him for a loop, though.

I guess Toddie's restricted from the yard now. I haven't really decided yet. I know he'll be carried out front from now on BY NONE OTHER THAN ME. You know he doesn't care for Aggie that much.

Poor little guy! He doesn't know how or why he got hurt, just that he did. Bohemut was like that for a few days. He's finally almost back to his sweet lovable self, but it's been almost two weeks. Toddie will be okay. It just takes time. They go through emotional shock just like people do.

I agree that he should be kept in or with you at all times. You can't take the chance of this happening again, or something worse happening. I know about Toddie, and he's lucky that he didn't break anything!

I still think you should take the guy to court--at least small claims court--to get him to pay the vet bill. He damaged your property (I know Toddie isn't property, but the law see's it that way) after you told him what not to do. I think you have a good case.

I agree w/you. HE IS GOING TO PAY ONE WAY OR ANOTHER. Toddie isn't your typical foo-foo pom.

He's full of pee/vinegar. He's always into something. I told the guy this for his protection and Toddie's. Toddie has nipped me a couple of time when he's been hurt.

I would hate to think if he'd bit this guy when Toddie jumped. Like your puppy the guy squeezed harder/tighter to hold on to Toddie and it scared (Toddie) worse.

Bohemut knows my dog-in a way. He's very outgoing, happy, peppy. HE JUST DOESN'T WANT TO BE HELD BUT BY A SELECTED FEW.

This guy is going to pay. I don't care what he says. It was his fault. He was asked/warned politely.

Guess Toddie's used up another of his 9 lives as we say. You know he has several. W/the legs, tail nipping, ear clipping, being fixed. I hope he survives. He's a trooper, keeps bouncing back. Like his momma I guess....LOL

Isn't it just plain ignorance on their part??? This man keeps coming over here or calling stating he's not going to pay for any of the bill. If he hadn't of picked up Toddie he wouldn't of been hurt. All the dogs were in an enclosed area on the porch.

They could see, hear Aggie or I in the front yard.

We have children in the neighborhood who'll come by to see our dogs. They are know/understand not to p/u 2 of them. The other 2 are just to big/heavy for children to p/u.

Now, I feel bad that we can't take Toddie out front w/out holding, leashing him. He doesn't ever run off and is always right at your heals or wheels. He knows not to go into the street or other's yards.

All our pets have been to obedience training and know where they can/can't go.

BTW: this guy now claims Toddie scratched him. I saw it. It looks like a paper cut. HE DESERVED IT. (I didn't tell him that, though)

He'll pay for this one way or another. He certainly won't be borrowing any more tools. That's for sure.

Toddie had a restless night. Up/down. He couldn't really get comfortable w/this being his hind legs.

(weird but, he sleeps on the kitchen floor all spread out. It's cooler for him w/his hair).

Started shaking in the middle of t he night. Scared me to death. So, I just wrapped him up and held him while we both slept. He's sticking close to my heels. Won't let ANYONE go near him but me.

Going on vacation next week. When I return I'm going to small claims court. Guy still up until about 10:00 lastnite either came over or called stating he wasn't going to pay for the vet. "You have to many pets and I'll report you to the HOA". Go right ahead.

When house was built they (builders, real estate agent) knew EXACTLY how many pets we have. There wasn't a problem as long as they weren't running lose, uncared for. They are all inside pets.

I hope Toddie's feeling better soon. I hate to see any of our pets in distress.

It really breaks my heart. Another trip to vet tomorrow for check up. He's so small and has been thru so much in 2 years. It's a wonder he's still w/us.

He's a trooper like the Energizer bunny or Timex watch. Keeps coming back.
