    Just a small vent...

Yesterday on my hubbies lunch break he came in w/ a baby sparrow he found on the ground. At first I told him to leave it alone and let the momma find it, but then I felt so bad I told him bring it in and we'll keep it on the porch (we couldn't keep it IN the house cause we have a parrot and I didn't want her exposed to 'wild bird germs'). Anyways, I had some formula from when my bird was a baby, so I knew I could feed it and it did eat twice... then it just wouldn't take any more and I found it dead this morning. I really thought she'd make it, she already had all her feathers (meaning she was atleast 4 months old) and could flutter 3 or 4 feet, she just wasn't fully flighted yet. I thought I'd have to feed her for about a week and then she'd be ok on her own. I dont know why I'm so upset, I know these things happen and nature takes it's course. I just wish I could have nursed it back. Oh well, I tried... thx for listening.

Sorry bout the birdie. It was more than most would do~! I remember when I was little, my mom found a baby bird at least every spring. She'd also put it in a box on the back porch and I remember her feeding it raw hamburger. Musta worked, I remember releasing more than 1 after they got bigger! Nice of you to try saving the poor little thing! (((HUGS)))

I remember doing this also, as my oldest son would bring one home every spring, and it never gets any easier when they don't make it, and they never seem to.

I just went thru the same thing my son found a baby bird in the back yard and he was taking care of it, but the next day it was dead and I felt so bad. Actually I believe my dog got a hold of it first she has had a few other birds and bunnies since then.
