I remember back when I was in school getting a paddling,~ sure did help me, and many others for that fact, some kids just need a good wack on the butt. The teacher lost control of her feelings, which was wrong, but the child does need dicipline. If one of my kids gets out of line with me, they get a spanking or grounded, or a good talking to. Dicipline is needed with children. Take it away, and they become out of control etc. etc. no respect for others.....
TWO THING TROUBLE ME ABOUT THIS THREAD.

I'M NOT SAYING MY CHILDREN ARE ANGELS. AS
SOMEONE POINTED OUT, NO ONE HAS PERFECT KIDS.
SECOND ; I WOULD ALSO BE TICKED IF I WENT
INTO MY CHILD CLASSROOM & SAW THE TEACHER OR
STUDENT TEACHER, ONLINE. EXCUSE ME BY
AREN'T YOU SUPPOSED TO BE THERE PAYING ATTENTION
TO THE CHILDREN ?? MAYBE THE CHILD IS ACTING OUT
TO GET SOMEONE'S ATTENTION.

The days of kids having respect for authority figures is over. They do as they please and they know that teachers cannot touch them. Therefore they can act out, hit, scream, yell, etc and know that the worst punishment they will get is to go home. So if there isn't an adult in the home they can watch tv all day long. Or play video games or whatever they want.
For most families, if a kid is acting out, the kid is in trouble but for many families this is a way of life. Parents are out of control and so are the kids. There is no family as such just a bunch of people who share the same space.
I am not saying that the assistant was correct by any means. I think the child should have been sent out of the class room and to the principals office. But for some kids, that's just the way of life and why should this time be any different from any other. They have no fear of authority and they don't care what happens. Their parents aren't going to do anything when they get home because they don't have the parenting skills to deal with the child. The kid is out of school for a few days and then back to start all over again. And if the parents touch the child what is to stop the child from calling CPS on them?
I also remember when teachers could paddle in school and it got taken advantage of way too much. We would get paddled if we did not get our spelling words right, if we did not do good on our math, and sometimes it was just because the teacher did not feel like dealing with a situation. Teachers would hit you on the knuckles with a ruler if you wrote with the wrong hand or wrote cursive wrong. I agree that the teachers need to have a way to discipline children when they act up, but if I do not spank my child at my house then I am for darn sure not going to let a stranger do it to my child. Besides, some other girl on here said she got arrested just for yelling in from of her children, shouldn't teachers be held to the same standard?Quote:

Any teacher that needs to resort to violence against a child should be fired.

What example is that setting for the kids ? "Oh, I can't be bothered to talk to the kid/adult/other person and work the issue out, so it looks like I will have to hit them to get my point across."
Nice way to set up a violent future for a kid.
I agree wuth a lot of you.. should a teacher ever raise a hand to either of my kids, they better enjoy it because it will be the last thing they do in the free world. Hope they enjoy telling Bubba and his jailmate buddies how big and tough they are, hitting kids.
FYI, Spanking is not illegal in private schools where we live. In fact, the school I am sending my son to next year, a very good Christian school, uses a paddle for serious offenses. Not for spelling words or homework not correct, or something minor. But, they do not smack or pop on the mouth. I agree that was not appropriate, although I can understand her frustration.
1. Violence is not the answer to stopping violence. Would you teach your kids not to hit by hitting them ? Doubt it.Quote:

Venting about a bad day is one thing. Appluading an ADULT for
HITTING a CHILD is just disgusting.
