    Unhappy Hamster help needed

Hi, I need a little hamster help . I`m afraid one of my kids friends hurt one of my kids hamsters. They had about 3 friends over, who were all holding, and playing with them, and then a few hours later, I went to help my daughter clean the cage, and the one hamster was just laying there, poor thing. My dh, picked it up, and looked at it, couldn`t see to much wrong with it,its backend was real wet, and he thought it may have a cut by where it pees? and he said it seemed like it was hurting It walks a little, but with its backend high up, but mostly it just sleeps. I don`t know what to do I hate for it to suffer, that is really getting to me, but 1., I don`t know how to tell what is wrong, but I know no limbs are broke, 2. should I just let it die, or should I put it out of its misery??, if so, how?? this is just awful, I hope someone can help

Call your vet. They might be able to help out. Also if you have a 24 hour vet clinic, call them and ask them as well.

Call a vet or even a pet store. I hope that your little hamster will be ok.

sounds like something internal--possibly he was accidently squeezed?or maybe too much handeling made his tummy upset?? i would seperate him from the other hamsters,if possible, keep him warm and dry and call the vet if he doesn't improve over-night with some rest.

This sounds to me like what is commonly known as 'wet butt'. It's a disease that hamsters get that vets really can't do much about. My dad flushed several that got it to keep the other ones from getting it, (this was back in the days when you could still get hamsters from wal-mart and cause they don't keep their pet area clean 90 percent of them died of this disease) but if your hamsters share a cage it's likely (assuming this is what it has) that you will lose them all. The best thing you can do if you don't want to put it out of it's misery just yet is to immediately get it out of the cage ... and even the same room ... as the other hamsters and disinfect VERY well all cages.

Thanks everyone, but she died Dh held her as she did. He said blood, and pus came out from "that region", right before she did, so I`m guessing she probably was squeezed, as she was fine earlier. No more neighborhood kids holding the little pets TY anyway

TY Beanie, I had looked up wet tail on the internet, and it said wet tail was severe diarrehea, and she didn`t have any, she was pooping(sorry) normal. I think she peed, then was just sitting in it(she was in her wheel at the time). I`ve had these(2 of them) hamsters for 6 months, with no problems , until today. Just real sad, both my kids are up still crying, on and off, guess no school for them today.

I know this is a littl late, but incase your others get it:

    About Wet Tail
Wet tail is a bacterial intestine problem, that normally young hamsters get, because when they get older even if the recovered they can get some colds again Because of that. it isn't fun and it is a deadly disease.
    Symptoms of Wet Tail
around the butt and tail part of a hamster it starts to get wet and looks like they sat in pee. In some cases the hamster might even lose hair down there.
Your hamster will oftenly get sleepier and fail to get his/her dailey excersise.
Your hamsters cage might smell and you will notice diarea since this is a intestine problem.
You will also notice a lack of grooming, and will look all dirty and scruffy, Your hamster becomes lazy and won't feel like doing anything and so it lacks to groom itself. Those are the symptoms of wet tail.
    How To Treat It
In your lacal pet store they will have a medicine for hamsters with wet tail called Dri-Tail. It will have instructions on the box or with the medicine. When your hamster has wet tail make sure he/she get's a lot of water too. And be sure to change it everyday, unless your instructions say otherwise. You have to change your hamsters cage as much as possible as soon as you find out it has wet tail. You also have to staralize the cage.
