    Spider-Man joins Marvel Cinematic Universe

Spider-Man joins Marvel Cinematic Universe as Sony agrees to super deal

Is your Spider-Sense tingling? Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige says the deal, which will reintroduce the popular super hero in an upcoming Marvel movie, possibly next year's 'Captain America: Civil War,' is 'something which both we at Marvel, and fans alike, have been looking forward to for years.'

Marvel Studios has finally snared Spider-Man in its web.

The studio announced late Monday that it reached a deal with Sony to debut a rebooted version of the wall-crawling superhero in one of its movies, sharing the same cinematic universe as the likes of Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and Chris Evans’ Captain America.

That movie is expected to be next year's "Captain America: Civil War," a source told the Wall Street Journal.

Spider-Man is of course a staple of the Marvel comic books, but had been licensed by Sony for the big screen before the publisher launched its own studio division.

Spider-Man is of course a staple of the Marvel comic books, but had been licensed by Sony for the big screen before the publisher launched its own studio division.

Under the deal, Sony Pictures will still maintain the rights to a standalone “Spider-Man” movie set for a July 28, 2017, release, but Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige will be a co-producer on the flick.

It’s a huge win for both Marvel and comic book nerds: Spider-Man, of course, is the flagship hero of the company’s comics division, but had been licensed to Sony before Marvel had established its own studio. The publisher’s popular X-Men franchise, however, remains in 20th Century Fox’s clutches.

Spidey could be teaming up with Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man and Chris Evan's Captain America.

"At last!!! At last Spidey is joining his fellow Marvel superheroes in what will certainly be one of the greatest action movies ever!," Stan Lee, who created the character with artist Steve Ditko, told the Daily News by email.

Feige will be joined as co-producer by outgoing Sony co-chair Amy Pascal, who is leaving her post after presiding over the crippling hacking scandal that plagued the company late last year.

Among the hacked emails that were leaked on to the Internet was internal correspondence that Sony was mulling just such a partnership with Marvel.

The stakes are high for Sony: The “Spider-Man” franchise has grossed more than $4 billion at the box office to date, but last year’s “Amazing Spider-Man 2” seemed to disappoint both fans and critics.

The actor behind the mask in the most recent on-screen Spidey movies, Andrew Garfield, is not expected to reprise the role.

Feige called the Spider-Man deal with Sony, “something which both we at Marvel, and fans alike, have been looking forward to for years."

The next Marvel movie is "Avengers: Age of Ultron," which hits theaters on May 1.
