The Reaction to Jesse Ventura’s Victory In His Lawsuit Against Chris Kyle’s Widow Ain’t Pretty
    July 30, 2014 By Jennifer Burke

If former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura, who is also a former wrestler and actor, thought his reputation was tarnished by what Chris Kyle wrote in his 2012 bestselling book, then he must be angry with himself over the devastation he has caused to his own reputation.

Ventura won his lawsuit on Tuesday against the estate of the late Navy SEAL Chris Kyle. While the jury initially went to the judge and stated that they could not reach a unanimous decision, the judge instructed them to try again. The jury, after 31 hours of deliberation, awarded Ventura $1.8 million.

Ventura sued Kyle for defamation of character over a story in Kyle’s 2012 bestseller American Sniper. In the book, Chris Kyle says that he punched Ventura in a California bar after Ventura made the statement that the “SEALs deserved to lose a few.

Ventura continued with his suit following the murder of Chris Kyle at a Texas gun range. He simply switched the lawsuit to be against Chris Kyle’s widow, Taya, who is the executor of the estate. Taya Kyle was left alone with two young children following her husband’s murder. But, that didn’t stop Ventura from proceeding with his lawsuit that he claims was necessary to clear his name.

Chris Kyle was not there to testify or offer counter testimony to Ventura since he was murdered. The jury saw recorded testimony from Kyle that was filmed before his death.

Although Ventura’s attorneys estimated that Chris Kyle’s wife and children had probably earned $6 million from his book, they were asking for a $5 million to $15 million verdict from the jury. The verdict and $1.8 million award, which Taya Kyle will have to pay out of her own pocket, is said to have left Taya Kyle ‘shocked’ and ‘speechless.’

Many are outraged that Ventura continued his lawsuit after Chris Kyle’s death and are even more outraged at the size of the verdict. According to CBS News, Ventura feels no remorse for his actions. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/jesse-ve...al-chris-kyle/

His targeting of a woman left widowed with two young children has drawn outrage. Many people have taken to social media to tell Jesse Ventura what they think of him.

Ventura was adamant that he needed to pursue the lawsuit to clear his name and reputation, but from the looks of it, he has tarnished his name and reputation even more with his lawsuit against Chris Kyle’s widow.

Here’s ‘Lone Survivor’ NAVY SEAL’s Response to Jesse Ventura’s Lawsuit of American Hero Chris Kyle.

In a blow to everyone’s collective belief in the goodness of humanity, Jesse Ventura won his lawsuit against the widow of Chris Kyle, the “American Sniper”- for a staggering $1.8 million.

None other than Marcus Luttrell of “Lone Survivor” fame carefully commented on the matter, so as to not become the next victim of Ventura’s insidious litigiousness.

    From his Facebook Page:

Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell stood up for Chris Kyle’s widow and publicly bodyslammed Ventura. It’s doubtful that Ventura will learn anything from it, but at least Luttrell put out there in the starkest possible terms what a lot of us were thinking when we heard about the award settlement.

This NAVY Seal Warns Jesse Ventura: You Crossed a Sacred Line, You’ll Be Faced With The Consequences
    23 hours ago

Now that passions have subsided over the initial shock of the news that Jesse Ventura won his case against the widow of “American Sniper” Chris Kyle, the long term consequences of the case can be considered soberly and rationally.

One NAVY Seal with special access to the “Naval Special Warfare” community spoke out to let Jesse Ventura know exactly what he’s done.

From Brandon Webb of SOFREP: http://sofrep.com/36353/one-navy-sea...ura-situation/

…Because of NSW’s celebrity, it’s even more important for SEALs to look at how they conduct themselves in the public eye and on social media. “Will what I’m about to do reflect positively on the SEAL community?” It’s a question I’ve been asking myself a lot these days, and the crux of my problem with Jesse Ventura.

    *

…The smartest thing I’ve heard come out of Jesse’s mouth was when he was quoted after the recent verdict saying, “There are no winners in this.” In fact, Jesse is the biggest loser in the end (next to the NSW community itself). This is a career ender for him, and an irrecoverable PR nightmare. His career as he used to know it is over.

    *

…And if Ventura was really concerned about the truth, and not the money, he should have told Taya Kyle on the courthouse steps that the $1.8M was hers to keep now that his name was cleared. But people with financial motivations don’t make this move.

    *

My problem with Jesse is not the alleged altercation between him and Chris, it’s about what happened after. Jesse (Janos) Ventura had plenty of opportunities to take the high ground in how he handled the situation. Instead, he made a series of bad decisions, the worst of which was to drag an American Hero’s widow and family in court, as if they haven’t suffered enough with their recent loss. As the father of three amazing children myself, I can’t imagine this scenario. It’s horrific.

    *

This is a sacred line, not to be crossed, ever Janos, and you will now have to live with the long-term consequences including a SEAL community that is polarized against your actions.
Some pretty harsh words from a competent authority on these matters. Let’s hope Ventura does the right thing and de-escalates this whole sad affair.

Nope. "Defamation of Character". Hmmm. Sounds like he's doing a pretty good job of this on his own.

Ventura: "Just Because She’s A Widow Doesn’t Mean She Can Profit From Slander"

    August 5, 2014 6:35 PM

Former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura launched Tuesday a public relations campaign to explain why he filed the high-profile defamation suit he won last week.

In a wide-ranging interview on WCCO Radio, and in an online video on Ora.tv, Ventura repeatedly said the lawsuit was not about the money; it was about clearing his name. “For me, it was always about the lie,” said Ventura, the former Navy SEAL and professional wrestler, who said he would have settled for an apology if the publishers of “American Sniper” admitted they fabricated a story about him. “All they did was offer money,” he said. “I refused, because I wanted to get my name back.”

Chris Kyle, the author of the best-selling book, said he “punched out” Ventura for making offensive comments about Navy SEALs, an incident Ventura denies ever happened.

A jury last week awarded Ventura $1.8 million in damages for defamation and “unjust enrichment”.

An unapologetic Ventura said he had no second thoughts about suing Chris Kyle’s widow, Taya Kyle, after he was murdered.

He said she used her widow status for sympathy, calling it a legal tactic to make him look bad in court. “(They thought) the upcoming court battle would look a whole lot better,” he said. “The widow? And the children? Look how I’ve been beaten up over that.”

Ventura said much of the $1.8 million in damages will go to his legal team, whose fees were in “the high hundreds of thousands of dollars”.

But none of it will go to charity or to Taya Kayle, whom he said “is making millions” off the book and an upcoming movie. “Just because she’s a widow does not mean she can profit from defamation and slander. And that’s what she’s done,” he said.

Ventura also said that not keeping the money would go against what the jury wanted: to reward him for the financial damage he says he suffered because of the book. “I would never counteract the jury like that,” he said. “To me, that would be like slapping the jury in the face.”

Jesse, you just sucker punched ... yourself.

    ...

No wonder the real seals can't stand him. To pick on the grieving family of a seal killed trying to help a comrade. Jesse I hope you're proud of yourself. Just because a jury says you're not guilty doesn't mean much, look at O.J.

    ..

I did not think it was possible for this guy to look any worse, but he has topped himself. This PR campaign makes him look desperate. If he knew he had been vindicated, he wouldn't feel the need to go on this publicity tour. He's scraping the bottom of the barrel here. And if he thinks he's making any friends in the Navy Seal community, or the military community at large, I can tell you firsthand that veterans don't look kindly on dragging a veteran's widow through a drawn-out public trial like this. Don't be surprised if the vets don't flood your phone line with speaking engagement requests, Jesse.

    ,,,

What an ego ! Is there any room off compaction and tact . He is a piece of work .

    ...

Ventura is a drama queen cry baby. Back in 2011 he was ticked about not getting his way in a separate court case..

"I will never stand for a national anthem again. I will turn my back and I will raise a fist," he said.

Yeh,,Im sure the sphere of his ego won't allow in the fact that his hissy fit in that situation damaged his already less-than-stellar reputation.

Taya Kyle to Jesse Ventura: It Ain’t Over
    September 8, 2014 By Jennifer Burke

At the end of July, Jesse Ventura was awarded a $1.8 million settlement in his lawsuit against the late Chris Kyle. Ventura was suing Kyle for defamation of character alleging that a scene depicted in Kyle’s book, “American Sniper,” was untrue.

In the book, Kyle details an altercation he had with Ventura at a California bar . He recounts that he punched Ventura after the former governor of Minnesota made the statement that “the SEALs deserved to lose a few.” Ventura was adamant that the story was untrue and claimed that it harmed his reputation. When Kyle died, Ventura continued the suit, transferring responsibility onto Taya Kyle, Chris’s widow, who was left alone with two children following her husband’s murder.

While a jury found in favor of Ventura, awarding him $1.8 million, the group was initially deadlocked and told the judge they could not reach a unanimous decision. The judge sent them back to convene again instructing them to try again. Furor erupted over the decision in the lawsuit by both those on the Left and the Right side of the political aisle. Americans took to Twitter to tell Jesse Ventura what they thought about him, and it wasn’t pretty.

Now, Taya Kyle is sending the message that she is not going down without a fight.

Her attorney, Larry Friedman, appeared on Fox and Friends Monday morning, with host Brian Kilmeade to discuss Taya’s decision to request that a judge throw out the $1.8 million verdict. Friedman began by stating that Ventura did not meet his burden of proof because the jury could not meet unanimous verdict.

While a unanimous verdict is required by law, the jury could only reach an 8 – 2 decision in favor of Ventura. For some reason, that decision was accepted by both the defense and the prosecution, and Ventura was awarded the $1.8 million verdict. He continued saying, “Jesse Ventura was given three bites at the apple and that’s not fair, it’s not right and it shouldn’t have happened that way.”
