'Pirates of the Caribbean 5' not coming in 2015 as planned after 'Lone Ranger' flop

The next "Pirates of the Caribbean" sequel has been temporarily docked.

The release date for the fifth installment in the film series starring Johnny Depp has been removed from Disney's distribution schedule. It was originally scheduled to launch July 10, 2015.

Disney previously announced that the fifth "Pirates" film will be directed by "Kon-Tiki" filmmakers Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg and was expected to begin production next year.

The move comes after Disney's "The Lone Ranger" failed at the box office this summer and the studio moved the debut of Marvel's "Ant-Man" from Nov. 6, 2015, to July 31, 2015.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer admitted to The Hollywood Reporter that “everybody’s more cautious” after "The Lone Ranger's" flop, but he said it was primarily script issues that caused the film's delay.

“We have an outline everyone loves but the script is not done,” he told the site. "We want a script that everyone’s signed off on and a budget that everyone’s signed off on.”

The most recent "Pirates" installments, "At World's End" and "On Stranger Tides," were both released in time for Memorial Day weekend in 2007 and 2011.

'Jurassic Park' sequel gets new title, release date
Plus: 'Pirates 5' and 'Mortal Instruments 2' delayed

By Don Kaye_ParallelUniverse 6 hours ago

The long-awaited fourth film in the "Jurassic Park" series has landed a new title and release date. According to The Wrap, "Jurassic World" will now open on June 12, 2015, a full year after it was originally scheduled to arrive.

The film is being directed by Colin Trevorrow ("Safety Not Guaranteed"), from a script by Trevorrow and Derek Connolly. What's interesting about this is that there was a screenplay already in existence, by "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" writers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, but it appears that script has been set aside.

Trevorrow has not given any hints about what direction he's taking with the story, although he recently refuted rumors that the plot would involved tamed dinosaurs. The new title, however, might lead credence to one rumor that the film would take place in a fully operational and open-to-the-public dinosaur theme park on the original film's Isla Nublar.

But as "Jurassic World" plants itself in the middle of the movie madhouse that will be the summer of 2015 -- which already features releases like "The Avengers: Age of Ultron," the untitled "Batman/Superman" movie and possibly "Terminator 5" -- another behemoth is setting sail for a more distant port.

The fifth "Pirates of the Caribbean" entry, rumored to be subtitled "Dead Man Tell No Tales," has been shifted out of its July 10, 2015 berth. A new date has yet to be announced, but a 2016 release is now likely. Disney President of Production Sean Bailey told Deadline, "Like audiences around the globe, we have high expectations for Jack Sparrow's next adventure and we want to have all the right elements in place. We're not there yet and we want to make sure this project is everything these wonderful characters and of course the fans deserve."

Although the previous four "Pirates" films have made $3.7 billion worldwide, Disney might be feeling nervous since it already has three big movies coming out in summer 2015 -- "Avengers," Marvel's "Ant-Man" and Pixar's "Inside Out." And let's not forget "Star Wars Episode VII," which the company could still schedule for that summer as well.

The studio also wants to keep costs down on the franchise, since the last one, "On Stranger Tides," cost some $250 million. The last film from the "Pirates" team of producer Jerry Bruckheimer and star Johnny Depp, this summer's "The Lone Ranger," was a disaster for Disney that could lose the studio nearly $200 million.

Finally, it should come as no surprise to anyone that the second "Mortal Instruments" movie, "City of Ashes," has been delayed indefinitely. Production was scheduled to begin this month on the sequel, based on the second in Cassandra Clare's best-selling series of young adult fantasy novels. But The Wrap reports that production has been shut down, with no indication of when or if it will resume.

The start of production was set in place before the first movie came out -- an ambitious and perhaps over-confident move that has backfired since "Mortal Instruments: City of Bones" came out last month to poor box office and almost universally bad reviews. The film, which stars Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell-Bower, has grossed just $58 million worldwide -- not even making back its $60 million budget yet. It seems to have joined other potential teen franchises like "The Host" and "Beautiful Creatures" on the box office scrap heap, which would make the idea of launching a sequel pointless at this stage.

Executive producer Martin Moszkowicz of production company Constantin Film said, "Constantin Film has a long tradition of adapting books to the big screen. Pushing back the start of production of 'City of Ashes' was a decision we did not take lightly. But after speaking with all of our partners on the creative and distribution side, it was clear that it will be beneficial to have more time to reposition the film in the current market place."

Johnny Depp's Mother Dies After Long Illness

by Philiana Ng 3:50 PM PDT, May 25, 2016/

    Johnny Depp’s mother has died.

Betty Sue Palmer died on the morning of Friday, May 20 in Los Angeles after a long illness, ET has learned. She was 81.

In 2004, Depp brought his mother to the Academy Awards, when he received his first Oscar nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role for Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.

In 2012, Palmer had reportedly been admitted to the ICU at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. More recently, in 2014, Depp was spotted taking his mother and his wife, Amber Heard, to dinner.

Depp had a close relationship with his mother. The 52-year-old actor has a tattoo of her name, “Betty Sue,” inside a heart on his left upper arm that he reportedly got in the late ‘80s, and in 1995, he purchased a 43-acre Kentucky farm for his mother, spending nearly $1 million.

In a 2013 interview with Rolling Stone, Depp spoke about his mother’s difficult upbringing.

"My mother was raised in a shack, in the wilds of Appalachia, where the toilet was an outhouse,” he said at the time. “She used to say she did the same things that her mom did -- and her mom certainly didn't know any better. With my kids, they're told 75 times a day that they're loved. One thing I know is they feel loved and secure and happy and needed and necessary and a part of something."

During his press tour for Black Mass, Depp shared his mother's priceless advice when it came to dealing with bullies at school as a young child. "She'd come from nothing but hillbillies and she said, 'OK, here's the deal. Next time anybody puts their hands on you, pick up a brick and lay them out'. And I've taken that advice ever since," he told Nottingham Post in November 2015.

Depp, in the middle of an Alice Through the Looking Glass press tour, appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday, days after the death of his mother, where he surprised Pink and kissed Jimmy Kimmel on the lips. Earlier that day, Heard filed for divorce after one year of marriage and is seeking spousal support.

Amber Heard Files for Divorce from Johnny Depp

By George Stark 05/25/2016 AT 06:00 PM EDT

Amber Heard has filed for divorce from Johnny Depp after 15 months of marriage, PEOPLE can confirm.

Heard, 30, filed a divorce petition on Monday citing irreconcilable differences. The actress is asking for spousal support from Depp, 52, according to the documents obtained by PEOPLE.

The couple married in February last year after first meeting on the set of 2011's The Rum Diary.

Reps for the couple were not immediately available for comment.

In December last year, Heard addressed split rumors to Marie Claire saying: "I try not to react to the horrible misrepresentation of our lives, but it is strange, and hard."

The pair went public with their relationship the following year after Depp announced his split from partner of 14 years Vanessa Paradis.

On Wednesday, news also emerged that Depp’s mother, Betty Sue Palmer, has died, ET reports.

Johnny Depp's wife leaves him after only a year of marriage and three days after his mother died!!! That really makes her look very bad! Hope she doesn't end up like the ex wife of Morton Rainy on that movie called the secret window which Johnny Stared in!! Haha ok I'm just kidding. If you didn't see that movie, you must. TBH, I felt like that woman got what she deserved. She cheated on him and totally ran him emotionally into the ground and then just married the guy that she cheated with and tried to make like she didn't do anything wrong and he was so hurt and a good guy but his other personality, demon, whatever you want to call it, took over in the end and well, i dont want to give it away if you didnt see it. Ok, but anyway, Wtf??? Im really interested to know why any woman would leave Johnny Depp after 1 year and right after his mom died! Really, i mean this i have to hear!! But damn! I love Johnny and i hate that hes going through this. He has my support!
