    Gary Sinise ...

‘Selfless service’: Patriot and actor Gary Sinise named honorary US Marine

Kudos to actor, musician, and tireless supporter of the troops, Gary Sinise. This weekend, he was named an honorary Marine for his amazing generosity and advocacy on behalf of our men and women in uniform.

    An honor well-deserved:

Well known for his portrayal of “Lt. Dan” in “Forrest Gump,” actor and musician Gary Sinise was named an honorary U.S. Marine during a ceremony in Washington, D.C., on Friday, according to a statement released by the U.S. Marine Corps website.

“This was one of the most extraordinary nights,” Sinise said in the statement. “I was totally surprised by what the general gave me tonight. I’m humbled, shocked, moved and motivated to keep standing up for our men and women and giving back to them.”

Gen. James F. Amos, the Marine Corps’ commandant, hosted the ceremony at his home at the Marine Barracks.

“There is little I can say to enhance the rich reputation Gary Sinise has earned, both in the spotlight as an immensely talented actor, and less conspicuously as a tireless advocate for our men and women in uniform,” Amos said in the statement. “What I can do, what I am privileged and proud to do, is to recognize this humble patriot’s selfless service by making him an Honorary Marine."

    As Sinise writes:

“Freedom and security are precious gifts that we, as Americans, should never take for granted. We must do all we can to extend our hand in times of need to those who willingly sacrifice each day to provide that freedom and security. While we can never do enough to show our gratitude to our nation’s defenders, we can always do a little more”

The Reaction of a Wounded Vet Who is Given A Life-Changing Gift from Gary Sinise is Humbling

By Mike Miller - 23 hours ago

Actor Gary Sinise, perhaps best known for his role as Lt. Dan in Forrest Gump, is a long-time supporter of America’s military, veterans, first responders and their families. Among his many endeavors, Gary focuses much of his attention on helping wounded vets live normal lives.

Through his Gary Sinise Foundation, the actor teams up with Building for America’s Bravest to build homes for wounded vets – outfitting them with specialized features designed to make their lives and those of their families easier – to give them “more independence,” as Gary says.

Gary sat down with Greta Van Susteren on Wednesday to talk about his most recent effort – building a home for quadruple-amputee Staff Sgt. Travis Mills and his family. During the segment, the grateful sergeant called in to the show to thank Gary.

Try as he might to control his emotions, Travis was overwhelmed by the remarkable gift that will make his life, and that of his wife and little girl, easier.

While we often focus on the “bad guys” in Hollywood, sports, music and others in the public arena, it’s patriots like Gary Sinise who are truly newsworthy – for the positive difference they make in people’s lives.

As Gary is quoted as saying on his foundation’s homepage:

“While we can never do enough to show gratitude to our nation’s defenders, we can always do a little more.”
    Amen, brother.

    He's great!

My hubby met with him (meet & greet) during a Wounded Warrior event at Iron Horse Park in CO a few years ago. Got his photo taken with him and he autographed his cap (no autographs were supposed to given during this event)
