Gibbs' Rules
Gibbs has rules that he instills in everyone in his team. Talking with a Marine Gunnery Sergeant in "Missing," Tony tries to refer to Rule 9 of "those rules they teach you in the Marine Corps," but the Marine doesn't know what rules he's talking about. This seems to confirm Tony's long-held suspicion that "Gibbs was making that stuff up," but when the team makes a reference to rule #23 in "Forced Entry," an MP on base quotes it correctly as it is stated below.
It is revealed in "Heartland" that Gibbs' first wife, Shannon, had planned to have a rule for everything, stating "Everyone needs a code to live by." The only rule that she revealed was "either rule number one or number three: never date a lumberjack."
In "Silver War," Gibbs tells Ziva that there are approximately fifty rules. Only 20 rules have been revealed. In "Collateral Damage" it is revealed by Tony that 7 rules involve lawyers. Although, some rule numbers apparently have changed or simply duplicated over time. Executive Producer Shane Brennan revealed that the duplication was intentional.
So: Why are there two No. 1s, and two No. 3s? Aficionados have wondered if, worst case scenario, those were continuity errors, or, giving the writers the benefit of the doubt, if Gibbs’ list was simply meant to be malleable.
The answer is: neither. Here is Brennan’s long-awaited and surprising explanation for that minor puzzle:
“Gibbs lives his life by a set of rules that took root from the first day he met Shannon. Over time, Gibbs added to the rules. When he joined NIS, Mike Franks told him he didn't need dozens of different rules to be an agent... just three 'golden rules.' And this is why we have double ups on rules #1 and #3.
Three of them are Gibbs' rules; three of them are Mike Franks’ rules. We are still to reveal the double-up on rule #2. And it's up to the fans to guess which of the rules were Mike Franks’ three golden rules and which were Gibbs'.”
Rule #1: Never let suspects stay together. (Yankee White, 1.01)
Rule #1: Never screw over your partner. (Blowback, 4.14)
Rule #2: Always wear gloves at a crime scene. (Yankee White, 1.01)
Rule #2: Unknown at this time
Rule #3: Don't believe what you're told. Double check. (Yankee White, 1.01)
Rule #3: Never be unreachable. (Deception, 3.13)
Rule #4: The best way to keep a secret? Keep it to yourself. Second best? Tell one other person - if you must. There is no third best. (Blowback, 4.14)
Rule #6: Never apologize. It's a sign of weakness.*
Rule #7: Always be specific when you lie. (Reveille, 1.23)
Rule #8: Never take anything for granted. (Probie, 3.10)
Rule #9: Never go anywhere without a knife. (One Shot, One Kill, 1.13 ; Missing, 1.20)
Sometimes as "Never leave home without a knife."
Rule #10: Never get personally involved in a case (Obsession, 7.21)
Rule #11: When the job is done, walk away. (Semper Fidelis, 6.24)
Rule #12: Never date a coworker. (Enigma, 1.15)
Rule #13: Never, ever involve a lawyer.(Collateral Damage, 6.07)
Rule #15: Always work as a team. (Leap of Faith, 5.05)
Rule #18: It's better to seek forgiveness than ask permission. (Silver War, 3.04)
Rule #22: Never, ever bother Gibbs in interrogation. (Smoked, 4.10)
Rule #23: Never mess with a Marine's coffee if you want to live. (Forced Entry, 2.09)
Rule #27: Two ways to follow: First way they never notice you, second way they only notice you. (Jack Knife, 7.15)
Rule #38: Your case, your lead. (Bounce, 6.16)
Rule #39: There is no such thing as coincidence.(Obsession, 7.21)
Rule #40: If it seems someone is out to get you, they are. (Borderland, 7.22)
Rule #44: Unknown at this time. (Patriot Down, 7.23)
Rule #51: Unknown at this time. (Rule Fifty-one, 7.24)
This is a direct reference to John Wayne's catch phrase in "She Wore A Yellow Ribbon" (John Ford, Director). Wayne said: "Never apologize, mister, it's a sign of weakness." to subordinates in a military situation. Mark Harmon's career has paralleled John Wayne's. They both were quarterback of their southern California college football team, both went into acting. (Harmon's father, Tom Harmon, was a Heisman Trophy winner and actor & announcer as well.)
Gibbs made five exceptions:
His apology to Kate for being late to her funeral.
His apology to McGee for not backing him up when he was interrogated (and arrested) by the DC Metro Police.
His apology to Franks because of his amnesia.
His apology to Ducky following his return from Mexico.
His apology to Joann for not being able to protect Shannon and Kelly
He also almost never accepts an apology, preferring to simply offer correction to the agent who made an error in an effort to teach his subordinates. It usually comes out from the subordinate that "It will never happen again." Gibbs' usual reply is something like "Sure won't!", "Better not," or even just "No, it won't."
Exception- Gibbs accepted McGee's apology reference his sister Sarah in, "Twisted Sister"

Leroy Jethro Gibbs' Rules
Jessie and I are fans (read: obsessed) with the show NCIS, which is currently getting ready to finish off its 6th season. (Season finale is Feb. 10, 2009)
One of the recurring aspects are a list of 50 or so 'rules' set forth by Leroy Jethro Gibbs. As of yet, the American public has only been introduced to a few, and I found this video compilation of them. Enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?
NCIS • Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ Rules
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=31997883537
Former US Marine "Sniper" Special Agent Leroy Jethro GIBBS, has rules he lives and works by…
... and a few of his wise words are included as well.
"Never let suspects stay together".
"Never screw over your partner".
"Always wear gloves at a crime scene".
"Never, ever involve a lawyer"
"Don't believe what you're told. Double check".
"Never be unreachable".
"Always be specific when you lie".
"The best way to keep a secret? Keep it to yourself... the second best way?... tell one other person, if you must... there is no third best".
"Never take anything for granted".
"Never go anywhere without a knife".
"Never date a coworker".
"Always work as a team".
"It's better to seek forgiveness, than ask permission".
"Never, ever bother Gibbs in interrogation".
"Never mess with a Marine's coffee, if you want to live".
"There is no such thing as coinsidence".
"When the job is done... walk away".
"Never marry a women, that eats more than you".
"If it's your case, your lead".
"Learn to anticipate..."
"Never work the system, when you can work the people".
"Dont hesitate, cos you second guessed yourself again".
"You can't work 'the field' in high heels".
"Do not 'Sir' me... I work for a living".
"Consciousness will make the interview go much smoother".
"I can sample the frosting on a cake, without leaving a fingerprint".
"Feel the wood?".... "You don't get a sensation like that, from a power tool".
And lastly one of Gibbs' rules which is used more often than the others, is my personal favourite: "Never apologize… It’s a sign of weakness" or some times said by Gibbs as: "Never say you're sorry… It's a sign of weakness".

I like that he is finally seeing someone his own age. I like her (JLC) so I hope she stays awhile. Gibbs deserves some happiness. And yes he is still very hot!

I am also hooked on NCIS now, just started to watch it a few months back. I am recording old episodes from USA. What I really like about the show is the camaraderie between the characters. The chemistry between them is believable. They make a really great team. Dinozzo is very funny and charming. I think he's very central to the show. Without him, the show will be boring. Ziva really spices things up. I do not like Kate as much as Ziva, so I'm glad they got rid of her after the 2nd season. I'm still going back and watching Seasons 1 & 2 though, but will be glad to get that over with. I think McGee looks better chubby in the earlier episodes.

I agree about McGee. I think he has lost too much weight. I like Ziva better than Kate too although a few months ago they had an episode that showed what might have been with Tony and Kate and I was crying. It was a very emotional episode getting to see old characters. I always liked Jenny and was sad when she left the show. pon2000, you picked a good show to get hooked on.

Thanks! Oh I forgot to mention Abby. Before watching the show and just seeing it advertised on TV, I thought Abby was a bit weird. I'm not into goth stuff, but after watching the show, I really like her. She is a real sweetheart. I think Gibbs is super soft on Abby, too. He's strict with everyone else, but lets Abby get away with a lot.
I felt bad that Ducky had a heart attack on the beach on the final episode of the last season (Season 9). I hope they won't kill him off.

One more thing - I thought Rule #51 is "you're wrong sometimes." This was at the end of the Rule Number Fifty One episode where Gibbs had told the lawyer that one of his rules was never to trust a lawyer, but in the end, she came through for him, so he wrote #51 you're wrong sometimes. Right?

You are right. Rule #51 is Sometimes — You're Wrong! I also found Rule #2: Always wear gloves at a crime scene.(Franks) 1x01 'Yankee White' and Rule #45: Clean up your own mess. (Gibbs Said, "Left a mess I've got to clean up." — DiNozzo commented that's basically Rule #45) Here's a link to them. http://www.ncisfanatic.com/2010/05/n...d-rule-51.html You can even watch Gibbs say them. I love Abby too. She's just as nice in real life in the interviews I've seen of her.

Cote De Pablo's Character Ziva Will Not Die On 'NCIS'
Posted: 08/07/2013 3:15 pm EDT
Good news, Ziva fans: Cote de Pablo's character will live on!
Although De Pablo is leaving "NCIS," TVLine has reported that Ziva will not kick the bucket in her final two episodes of the CBS series. “It’s not what this character deserves,” executive producer Gary Glasberg told the site. “Also, [we killed off] Sasha Alexander’s Kate character [back in Season 2] and I like the idea of doing this one a little different and respecting who [Ziva] is.”
As for De Pablo herself, the actress recently opened up to Latina magazine about her decision to leave the series. “It was not an easy decision, not one taken lightly," she said. "I feel like I am leaving my family. What I want to say most of all is thank you to the fans and to the people who have been so supportive of me and of the show, who have made the show the great success that it is."
Viewers are especially sad to see De Pablo leave the series because her storyline with love interest Tony (Michael Weatherly) has yet to be resolved. But ... "the will they/won't they is answered," Weatherly assured TV Guide, adding, "Tony's going to be forced to face this Sword of Damocles that's been hanging over him since Season 3."
Season 11 of "NCIS" premieres on Tues., Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS

Cote de Pablo Exits NCIS: Scoop on Who’s replacing Ziva David; Bones’ Squintern Approach Hinted
Cote de Pablo shocked fans and NCIS cast mates when she decided to leave the show. Social media reactions on Ziva David's imminent departure show so much love for the actress and the character. Can she ever be replaced? The latest scoop says NCIS will use Bones' squintern approach.
In the Fox series "Bones," there are several interns helping anthropologist Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) at the Jeffersonian Institute. This only started in Season 4, when Eric Millegan who plays Dr Zack Addy, left the show. No one ever replaced Zack up to the recently concluded Season 8. Instead, several actors work on rotation as "squinterns." There was one special episode when all the "Zac replacements" worked together, though. It seems NCIS is planning this same approach to manage Cote de Pablo's departure from the show.
TV Line's Michael Ausiello reported that NCIS exec producer Gary Glasberg is not rushing to replace Ziva. The show will be "taking a page from Bones' squintern playbook," says the scoop, noting that "some fun people" will step in and out to fill the void left by Cote de Pablo.
"The first two episodes are all about Ziva's departure... And then in the third episode we introduce, for instance, a woman in her 50s who is a few days away from retirement and just needs to fill the desk time. She, in theory, knew Gibbs all the way back to the days of Mike Franks. So we're going to bring in people like that and have some fun with different characters. And then, hopefully, when people are comfortable enough, one will walk in and be The One."
In a statement, Cote de Pablo said she looks forward to "finishing Ziva's story" after eight years with NCIS. "I have huge respect and affection for Mark, Gary, Michael, David, Rocky, Pauley, Brian, Sean, all of the team and CBS," the actress said.
Fans are currently speculating on what happens next to Ziva's Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly).
