Shift on executive power lets Obama bypass rivals
President takes routes around congressional Republicans blocking his agenda
By Charlie SavageSenator Harry Reid of Nevada, the Senate Democratic leader, who essentially invented the pro forma session tactic late in Mr. Bush’s presidency, has not objected, however. Senate aides said Mr. Reid had told the White House that he would not oppose such appointments based on a memorandum from his counsel, Serena Hoy. She concluded that the longer the tactic went unchallenged, the harder it would be for any president to make recess appointments — a significant shift in the historic balance of power between the branches.

The White House counsel, Kathryn Ruemmler, said the Obama administration’s legal team had begun examining the issue in early 2011 — including an internal Bush administration memo criticizing the notion that such sessions could block a president’s recess powers — and “seriously considered” making some appointments during Congress’s August break. But Mr. Obama decided to move ahead in January 2012, including installing Richard Cordray to head the new consumer financial protection bureau, after Senate Republicans blocked a confirmation vote. “I refuse to take ‘no’ for an answer,” Mr. Obama declared, beneath a “We Can’t Wait” banner. “When Congress refuses to act and — as a result — hurts our economy and puts people at risk, I have an obligation as president to do what I can without them.”

The unilateralist strategy carries political risks. Mr. Obama cannot blame the Republicans when he adopts policies that liberals oppose, like when he overruled the Environmental Protection Agency’s proposal to strengthen antismog rules or decided not to sign an order banning discrimination by federal contractors based on sexual orientation.

The approach also exposes Mr. Obama to accusations that he is concentrating too much power in the White House. Earlier this year, Senator Charles E. Grassley, Republican of Iowa, delivered a series of floor speeches accusing Mr. Obama of acting “more and more like a king that the Constitution was designed to replace” and imploring colleagues of both parties to push back against his “power grabs.”

But Democratic lawmakers have been largely quiet; many of them accuse Republicans of engaging in an unprecedented level of obstructionism and say that Mr. Obama has to do what he can to make the government work. The pattern adds to a bipartisan history in which lawmakers from presidents’ own parties have tended not to object to invocations of executive power.

For their part, Republicans appear to have largely acquiesced. Mr. Grassley said in an interview that his colleagues were reluctant to block even more bills and nominations in response to Mr. Obama’s “chutzpah,” lest they play into his effort to portray them as making Congress dysfunctional. “Some of the most conservative people in our caucus would adamantly disagree with what Obama did on recess appointments, but they said it’s not a winner for us,” he said.

Mr. Obama’s new approach puts him in the company of his recent predecessors. Mr. Bush, for example, failed to persuade Congress to pass a bill allowing religiously affiliated groups to receive taxpayer grants — and then issued an executive order making the change.

President Bill Clinton increased White House involvement in agency rule making, using regulations and executive orders to show that he was getting things done despite opposition from a Republican Congress on matters like land conservation, gun control, tobacco advertising and treaties. (He was assisted by a White House lawyer, Elena Kagan, who later won tenure at Harvard based on scholarship analyzing such efforts and who is now on the Supreme Court.)

And both the Reagan and George Bush administrations increased their control over executive agencies to advance a deregulatory agenda, despite opposition from Democratic lawmakers, while also developing legal theories and tactics to increase executive power, like issuing signing statements more frequently.
    .
The bipartisan history of executive aggrandizement in recent decades complicates Republican criticism. In February, two conservative advocacy groups — Crossroads GPS and the American Action Network — sponsored a symposium to discuss what they called “the unprecedented expansion of executive power during the past three years.” It reached an awkward moment during a talk with a former attorney general, Edwin Meese III, and a former White House counsel, C. Boyden Gray. “It’s kind of ironic you have Boyden and me here because when we were with the executive branch, we were probably the principal proponents of executive power under President Reagan and then President George H. W. Bush,” Mr. Meese said, quickly adding that the presidential prerogatives they sought to protect, unlike Mr. Obama’s, were valid.

But Jack L. Goldsmith, a Harvard law professor who led the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel during the George W. Bush administration, said the Obama administration’s pattern reflects how presidents usually behave, especially during divided government, and appears aggressive only in comparison to Mr. Obama’s having been “really skittish for the first two years” about executive power. “This is what presidents do,” Mr. Goldsmith said. “It’s taken Obama two years to get there, but this has happened throughout history. You can’t be in that office with all its enormous responsibilities — when things don’t happen, you get blamed for it — and not exercise all the powers that have accrued to it over time.”

Obama still evolving on executive power?
posted at 10:01 am on June 25, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

Ross Douthat marveled yesterday on Barack Obama’s apparent evolution on executive power — and that of the Left as well. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/06/24/op...eges.html?_r=1 When Obama ran for the presidency in 2008, he championed the Left’s hostility toward George W. Bush’s supposed “imperial presidency,” often using his experience as a Constitutional law lecturer to assail Bush for his unilateral approach to the job. He even appointed Harold Koh, one of the Bush administration’s fiercest critics on the use of executive power, to work in the Obama administration at the Office of Legal Counsel.

Now, as Ross notes, rather than reverse the use of unilateral executive power, Obama has grown a lot more comfortable with it — and so has the Left:

On issues large and small, from the conduct of foreign policy to the firing of United States attorneys, the Bush White House pushed an expansive view of executive authority, and Democrats pushed right back — accusing it of shredding the constitution, claiming near-imperial powers and even corrupting the lawyers working in its service.

That was quite some time ago. Last week the Obama White House invoked executive privilege to shield the Justice Department from a Congressional investigation into a botched gunrunning operation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The previous week the White House invoked powers that President Obama himself had previously claimed to lack, unilaterally revising the nation’s immigration laws by promising to stop enforcing them against a particularly sympathetic population.

Both moves were entirely characteristic of this presidency. Obama campaigned as a consistent critic of the Bush administration’s understanding of executive power — and a critic with a background in constitutional law, no less. But apart from his disavowal of waterboarding (an interrogation practice the Bush White House had already abandoned), almost the entire Bush-era wartime architecture has endured: rendition is still with us, the Guantánamo detention center is still open, drone strikes have escalated dramatically, and the Obama White House has claimed the right — and, in the case of Anwar al-Awlaki, followed through on it — to assassinate American citizens without trial.
Ilya Somin notes that Obama has gone farther than Bush: http://www.volokh.com/2012/06/24/oba...ecutive-power/

Douthat does not mention what was perhaps Obama’s biggest reversal on executive power. The man who in 2007 wrote that “[t]he President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation,” last year waged a war against Libya without any congressional authorization. Even Bush never went that far.

Actually, the unilateral exercise of executive power started from the beginning of this presidency — and Gitmo is an example. Without taking time to consult with Congress, overwhelmingly dominated by Democrats at that time, Obama issued an EO on his very first day in office ordering Gitmo closed within a year. Obama had promised just such an order for almost two full years on the campaign trail, but soon discovered that it’s a lot easier to issue orders than to have them fulfilled when you go it alone. By the time the next year rolled around, the Christmas Day bomber had scorched his gonads in a nearly-successful attempt to bomb a plane over Detroit, Nidal Hasan had killed 14 in a shooting spree at Fort Hood, and Americans decided they didn’t like the idea of giving Khalid Sheikh Mohammed a media platform in lower Manhattan near the World Trade Center location where his plot killed almost 3,000 people.

As I wrote in my column for The Fiscal Times, the problem with Obama’s use of executive power isn’tjust the hypocrisy involved — but also the exposure of his incompetence: http://www.thefiscaltimes.com/Column...wer.aspx#page1

The most expansive use of extraordinary executive authority came next. Obama demanded authorization to spend $800 billion in a stimulus package to rescue the economy and keep unemployment below 8 percent. Democrats locked Republicans out of the crafting of the bill, and the end result gave Obama access to an amount of money in excess of the gross domestic product of Poland today, which ranks 23rd in world economies, with little oversight on its use.

Despite arguing that these extraordinary executive resources could succeed in rebuilding the economy and protecting jobs, unemployment soared to over 10 percent. It has not dropped below 8 percent since then, with the civilian population participation rate in the workforce plummeting to a 30-year low as millions despaired of finding work in the US economy.

Finally, of course, this week provided the ultimate in executive action. Obama assertedexecutive privilege in an investigation of how guns run into Mexico by the ATF resulted in the deaths of hundreds in Mexico, the murders of two American law-enforcement agents (Border Patrol agent Brian Terry and ICE agent Jaime Zapata), and how the Department of Justice misled Congress by claiming the program didn’t exist and that ATF never allowed guns to walk across the border at all.

In this case, we have executive action designed to hide the failures of previous extra-legal executive action, this time within agencies that derive their authority in part from Congress itself. That is likely to work out just as well as Obama’s previous assertions of extraordinary executive authority, and the escalation of the fight over Operation Fast and Furious practically guarantees that national media outlets will have to cover the scandal in much greater detail than over the past sixteen months of House Oversight Committee investigation.
The political problem with this much unilateral executive action is that when things go wrong, no one shares the blame. Whatever momentary bump one gets for being a Man Of Action will evaporate rapidly when the action proves ineffective or counterproductive. Obama has had too many of the latter and has no political cover from the consequences, and neither do those who sold out on limited executive power as soon as George W. Bush headed for Marine One on January 20th, 2009.

Biden in 2007: Executive privilege only covers communications between a president and his advisors
    By Doug Powers • June 25, 2012 02:30 PM

It appears unlikely that Biden’s boss will send him a follow up “well said, Joe” Tweet for this blast from the recent past: http://cnsnews.com/news/article/bide...sident-and-his

Biden was responding to a question posed by the Boston Globe http://www.boston.com/news/politics/...ateQA/BidenQA/ which asked Biden, “Does executive privilege cover testimony or documents about decision-making within the executive branch not involving confidential advice communicated to the president himself?”

Biden delivered an unqualified response. “The executive privilege only covers communications between the president and his advisors,” Biden said in a Boston Globe interview published in Dec. 20, 2007. “Even when the privilege does apply, it is not absolute; it may be outweighed by the public’s interest in the fair administration of justice.”

Biden, then serving as a U.S. senator from Delaware and seeking the Democratic presidential nomination, was speaking about President Bush and the issues of warrantless surveillance and interrogation of terror suspects in his interview with the Globe.
Biden said that in the same year then-Senator Obama knocked the Bush administration for trying to “hide behind executive privilege.”

Tomorrow, Biden visits Waterloo. Insert your own campaign metaphor joke here.

    Obama to Court: Drop Dead
    By Jeffrey Lord on 6.25.12 @ 3:38PM

    No kidding.

Within hours of the Supreme Court's decision on the Arizona immigration law -- leaving in place a core section of the law that allows local law enforcement to continue checking the immigration status of anyone suspected of being an illegal -- the Obama administration has just said it will no longer enforce the law.

Fox News reports that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security -- that would be Secretary Janet "Big Sis" Napolitano -- has just announced that the Obamites are "suspending a key program that allowed state and local law enforcement to enforce federal immigration law." http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012...#ixzz1ypiQ67hG

In other words, they didn't like the Court's ruling so -- they simply will not enforce the law because they don't like it.

    Why? The unspoken reason?

Progressives need to play the politics of race or they are out of business. So Secretary Janet Napolitano has just played the race card -- effectively telling the Court to drop dead.

Who cares about the Constitution when the Latino vote is so critical?

    Shades of George Wallace.

    Obama’s Oath of Obfuscation
By drillanwr, on June 25, 2012, at 3:46 pm

So Nice He Did It Twice:

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States."

    And you believed him?

In the wake of the Supreme Court's decision on Arizona's immigration law, Obama administration officials announced Monday they are suspending in the state a key program that allowed state and local law enforcement to enforce federal immigration law.

The move further weakens efforts by Arizona, and potentially other states, to take the reins on immigration enforcement.

The high court decision Monday struck down three provisions in Arizona's law but left in place a central plank that required local law enforcement during routine stops to check the immigration status of anyone they suspect is in the country illegally.

Obama administration officials and congressional Democrats immediately raised concerns this could lead to "racial profiling," though Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer adamantly denies it. To address those concerns, Obama administration officials moved Monday to pull back on enforcement cooperation with local jurisdictions -- meaning that even if local police step up immigration checks, they'll have to rely on federal officials to make the arrests.

Federal officials said the program known as 287(g) would be immediately rescinded in Arizona. That program was a partnership between federal and local governments, and allowed local authorities to make immigration-based arrests.

Officials also said Immigration and Customs Enforcement will be selective in responding to the expected increase in calls from Arizona and other police agencies about immigration status of people they pull over. Officials said ICE will not respond to the scene unless the person in question meets certain criteria -- such as being wanted for a felony.[/quote]

Forces you to ponder what Obama will do prior to Nov. 6th if he is sinking in the polls, and post-Nov. 6th after he loses the election...

Barack Obama Issues Martial Law Executive Order

Friday afternoon, March 16, President Barack Obama issued an Executive Order that authorizes peacetime martial law in the United States of America. http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-...s-preparedness The Executive Order is titled, National Defense Resources Preparedness Order. In effect that document gives full and complete control over the entire countries natural resources in case of a natural disaster or during a time of war.

Barack Obama granted to himself authority to approve the dispensing of all domestic energy, production, transportation, food, and water supplies as he deems necessary to protect national security.

The document itself though is not limited to a time of war or even of that of a natural disaster. Rather the text of the document says that the President can invoke these powers for national defense in the “full spectrum of emergencies” (Sec 103a). Here is the specific section in context:

Section 101. Purpose. This order delegates authorities and addresses national defense resource policies and programs under the Defense Production Act of 1950, as amended (the “Act”).

Sec. 102. Policy. The United States must have an industrial and technological base capable of meeting national defense requirements and capable of contributing to the technological superiority of its national defense equipment in peacetime and in times of national emergency. The domestic industrial and technological base is the foundation for national defense preparedness. The authorities provided in the Act shall be used to strengthen this base and to ensure it is capable of responding to the national defense needs of the United States.

Sec. 103. General Functions. Executive departments and agencies (agencies) responsible for plans and programs relating to national defense (as defined in section 801(j) of this order), or for resources and services needed to support such plans and programs, shall:

    (a) identify requirements for the full spectrum of emergencies, including essential military and civilian demand;

    (b) assess on an ongoing basis the capability of the domestic industrial and technological base to satisfy requirements in peacetime and times of national emergency, specifically evaluating the availability of the most critical resource and production sources, including subcontractors and suppliers, materials, skilled labor, and professional and technical personnel;
Barack Obama claims that the authority for such a radical and far reaching order is found in the Defense Production Act of 1950.

What exactly will he be taking over in regards to ‘natural resouces’? Food? Yes. Livestock? Yes. Control the Water Supply? Yes. Other thing? Yes. Here is the relevant section of the order:

Sec. 201. Priorities and Allocations Authorities. (a) The authority of the President conferred by section 101 of the Act, 50 U.S.C. App. 2071, to require acceptance and priority performance of contracts or orders (other than contracts of employment) to promote the national defense over performance of any other contracts or orders, and to allocate materials, services, and facilities as deemed necessary or appropriate to promote the national defense, is delegated to the following agency heads:

    (1) the Secretary of Agriculture with respect to food resources, food resource facilities, livestock resources, veterinary resources, plant health resources, and the domestic distribution of farm equipment and commercial fertilizer;
    (2) the Secretary of Energy with respect to all forms of energy;
    (3) the Secretary of Health and Human Services with respect to health resources;
    (4) the Secretary of Transportation with respect to all forms of civil transportation;
    (5) the Secretary of Defense with respect to water resources; and
    (6) the Secretary of Commerce with respect to all other materials, services, and facilities, including construction materials.

    (b) The Secretary of each agency delegated authority under subsection (a) of this section (resource departments) shall plan for and issue regulations to prioritize and allocate resources and establish standards and procedures by which the authority shall be used to promote the national defense, under both emergency and non-emergency conditions. Each Secretary shall authorize the heads of other agencies, as appropriate, to place priority ratings on contracts and orders for materials, services, and facilities needed in support of programs approved under section 202 of this order.

    (c) Each resource department shall act, as necessary and appropriate, upon requests for special priorities assistance, as defined by section 801(l) of this order, in a time frame consistent with the urgency of the need at hand. In situations where there are competing program requirements for limited resources, the resource department shall consult with the Secretary who made the required determination under section 202 of this order. Such Secretary shall coordinate with and identify for the resource department which program requirements to prioritize on the basis of operational urgency. In situations involving more than one Secretary making such a required determination under section 202 of this order, the Secretaries shall coordinate with and identify for the resource department which program requirements should receive priority on the basis of operational urgency.

    (d) If agreement cannot be reached between two such Secretaries, then the issue shall be referred to the President through the Assistant to the President and National Security Advisor and the Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism.

    (e) The Secretary of each resource department, when necessary, shall make the finding required under section 101(b) of the Act, 50 U.S.C. App. 2071(b). This finding shall be submitted for the President’s approval through the Assistant to the President and National Security Advisor and the Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism. Upon such approval, the Secretary of the resource department that made the finding may use the authority of section 101(a) of the Act, 50 U.S.C. App. 2071(a), to control the general distribution of any material (including applicable services) in the civilian market.
This is, in effect, a marital law declaration. In case you were wondering, yes, it means all natural resources, including you, your family and all your goods. After all, all of those are considered natural resources.

There is no doubt that the implementation of this executive order in this election year is not by coincidence. Rather, this author believes we are about to see a very serious power grab along with what our military terms as “false flags” in order for Barack Obama to use this executive order and completely become dictatorial, through the means of martial law.

Our nation has seen such orders enacted in the past such as President Abraham Lincoln in the War of Northern Aggression and also President Woodrow Wilson. This administration has already told us via the Defense Secretary that Congress and its Constitutional authority are meaningless to them. http://frontporchpolitics.com/2012/0...tution/http:// They are merely considered ceremonial to the Obama administration.

There is no question that this year could be the beginning of a true war between the government and the people as it seems that Barack Obama is hell bent on continuing his Chicago gangster methods to become the Godfather dictator that we have been saying he was aiming for, for far too long. God help us!

Obama Declares National Emergency In Latest Executive Order

On June 25, 2012 Barack Obama declared a national emergency in his latest executive order. The order titled, ‘Russian Highly Enriched Uranium,” stated that in light of earlier policy EOs (12938, 13085, 13159) that Barack Obama finds,

“that the risk of nuclear proliferation created by the accumulation of a large volume of weapons-usable fissile material in the territory of the Russian Federation continues to constitute an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States, and hereby declare a national emergency to deal with that threat.”
The original order was signed by former President Bill Clinton in 2000 and was to protect payments that the U. S. made to the Russian Federation under the agreement between the two governments concerning the Disposition of Highly Enriched Uranium Extracted from Nuclear Weapons, or what is commonly referred to as HEU Agreements.

Are Feds Preparing for Martial Law?
    Friday, June 29, 2012

There’s a lot of buzz lately about the federal government preparing for massive civil unrest across the country. The most recent alarm was raised when the Army began conducting military training exercises in the streets of St. Louis, Mo.

The Army Reserve’s 354th MP unit is conducting training using what has been described in some stories as “tanks” but are actually heavily armored vehicles similar to large Humvees or armored personnel carriers.

Army officials have been mum on why the exercises are being conducted in the streets of a major city, but St. Louis residents were warned not to be alarmed if the armored vehicles came rolling by.

Most interviews conducted with residents by broadcast news have been with people who were supportive of the Army’s presence, and some have suggested that the military show might cut crime. This has led some bloggers to speculate that the purpose of the exercises is to acclimate people to seeing an urban military presence.

Another story that has fueled speculation about preparations for civil unrest is the purchase of 450 million rounds of .40-caliber hollow-point bullets by the Department of Homeland Security/Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The purchase was announced at the end of March in a press release from the company that won the supply contract, ATK.

Hollow-point bullets are designed to expand on impact, greatly increasing the size of any wound and lowering the chance that the bullet might “blow through” the target. They are best used against unarmored targets.

Earlier this week, the story came out that ISP GoDaddy had been ordered by the “Obama Truth Team” to shut down the website HomelandSecurityus.com, run by Douglas Haggman, CEO of Hagmann Investigative Services, Inc., a private investigative agency serving Fortune 500 clients.

Hagmann says GoDaddy told him his site was being removed for “morally objectionable content,” but that further investigation led him to the Truth Team, a wing of the Obama campaign that spends its days trolling the Internet for anything negative about the president. Hagmann says he believes at least part of the reason he drew the Truth Team’s ire is that he published a story that went viral last month about a Homeland Security insider source who alleged that the feds are preparing for “massive civil war” in the next few months.

The Truth Team, which is on Facebook, has even caught the attention of ABC’s Jake Tapper, who criticized the team for using campaign propaganda as “facts” to refute legitimate criticism of Obama and his administration. The Obama Administration is also known to have killed published stories about Obama’s daughters and is rumored to have killed others. Hagmann has moved his site to another server so that it can remain online.

Stories like the above have fueled concern among some people about the federal government’s intentions, particularly as the presidential election approaches.

In fact, let me add a story of my own. In my own community, in the greater Los Angeles area, I’ve personally seen now on at least three occasions flights of military helicopters zooming just above treetop level along the 101 Freeway corridor. These were definitely military choppers. Each time, they were in flights of two. Twice, the flights included a cargo/personnel chopper and an attack helicopter packing wing-mounted weapon pods. The third time, it was two of the attack choppers.

After each sighting, I called our local military base and was told there were no flights over that area and that their pilots wouldn’t be allowed to fly that low if there had been. The local newspapers and stations had no clue that anything had even happened.

So what can you make of all this? Most of these stories have plausible explanations.

In the case of the St. Louis Army training, the National Guard often moves its units around in the summer for training exercises, so a Maryland-based unit might conceivably find itself practicing in Missouri. For the hollow-point shells order, perhaps Homeland Security was just making sure it spent its budget so that it wouldn’t be cut back the next fiscal year. In the case of the helicopters, maybe some big shot just needed to get from Point A to Point B and the military publicist just didn’t feel the public needed to know.

Maybe other suggestions are just paranoia.

The problem is, the human capacity for self-delusion cuts both ways. Just as we may jump too quickly to the conclusion that we’re about to enter a state of martial law, we also have a tremendous ability to ignore the obvious and see no evil even when it is practically screaming in our faces.

Going back to the helicopters for a moment. On the occasion of one such sighting, I was outside a convenience store with two other people when the choppers flew overhead. The parking lot and surrounding sidewalks were fairly busy. I would guess at least 20 to 30 people were walking around outside, not to mention all the people in cars stopped at the intersection, which easily accounted for another 20 people at least.

The choppers approached, the noise of their rotors making the air vibrate. They were literally low enough that I could almost have made out the faces of the pilots if they hadn’t been wearing helmets. I pointed out the choppers to my companions who also remarked on how low and loud they were. We counted the number of missiles on the racks of the helicopters.

The amazing thing, though? I didn’t see anyone of the 50 or more people around us look up. I remarked on that fact to my companions, and they also looked around and noticed everybody else seemed too wrapped up in “whatever” to notice something very unusual happening just a hundred feet over their heads.

It was almost a creepy feeling, and it did feel for a few seconds like we were being invaded or had been invaded and nobody noticed except for our little group.

The real issue that has Americans on edge, though, is signified by the Truth Team ordering a website shut down. Anyone who has been really paying attention to this administration knows that we are living under the thumb of a president who is a solipsistic narcissist with no conscience about breaking the law if it suits him.

President Obama’s recent actions have given a clear indication that he believes neither Congress nor Supreme Court can check his powers, and he has been gathering more power to himself. He has made it clear that he would prefer to be a king rather than a president.

He has also made it clear that as his poll numbers slip among various constituent groups that strongly supported him the last time, he is growing increasingly desperate and is willing to do whatever it takes to try to lure supporters back to his camp.

Under this president, at this time, the scenario of impending martial law is believable in a way that it never has been before. Obama has Americans in a battlefield frame of mind. But how can you know for sure what the government’s intentions are?

The best course may be simply to be prepared. As Col. William Prescott said, “Don’t fire until you see the whites of their eyes.”

Meanwhile ... Border Patrol agents in Arizona are blasting their bosses for telling them, along with all other Department of Homeland Security (DHS) employees, to RUN AND HIDE if they encounter an "active shooter." Disgraceful cowardice from DHS brass. But I guess we shouldn't be surprised - after all these are the same folks who ordered Agent Brian Terry and his men to use guns with "bean bag" rounds (http://bit.ly/dUIzmt) the night he was shot and killed with an AK-47 provided to the cartels by Eric Holder's 'Fast and Furious'.

I think the Jews never thought the holocaust would happen either, the difference here is, we have the 2nd amendment. The 2nd amendment was put in PRECISELY in order to protect us from our own Gov't running amok over the populace. Chess pieces on the big board seem to be moving with regularity now, we approach checkmate, the anti-christ prepares using our own laws and procedures against us. We ignore so many signs that are right in front of us now. The executive branch is routinely ignoring the rule of the Constitution, and nothing is done about, almost as if there is a bigger hand at work here. May God truly help us all my friends, chance will favor the prepared...

    ...

You forgot to mention that the government monitors the web. They control the web. They can let ONLY WHAT THEY WANT YOU TO KNOW. Cell phones depend on sattilites for signals. The gov't can shut them down. Something is coming......it will kick off right around election day..........I wouldn't be suprised to see the "polls" closed the day before. Congress better start "sharpening" their minds and get ready for a "coup"...

    ...

And what makes you think the goverment can not shut down your enternet and cell phone in less than an hr. Then it will just be word of mouth, if you can even get around. We can just hope the young men in the military will not follow the presidents orders, better wake up and be ready to stand

    ....

If China has the capacity to shut down the grids in the US, what makes you think the US govenment doesn't have that same capacity? Governments across the globe are so corrupt, none of them are trustworthy anymore. That's what the new world order is all about--a handful of elites enslaving the masses and murdering anyone who gets in their way. The greed and avarice shared by these few felonious individuals want everything and they will stop at nothing to to have their way. That's why it is important for America to maintain its freedoms.

    ....

I wish that were true Richard, but that is not the case. All they need to do is take over key elements of the backbone, primary ATM routers and switches, and much of the web is down. It would be quite simple for the military to simply take over some key satellites and much of that would also be down. Don't kid yourself, our infrastructure is far more fragile than you think. I speak as a systems administrator, all of us IT geeks know how truly vulnerable we are....old school HAM radio will be far more useful and much more difficult to shut down all the 10's of thousands of users all over.

    .....

Remember several months at exactly 2:00pm when every state in this country had an emergency alert over the air waves? Within two weeks Obama also signed a bill emabling him to control all other forms of communications with a flip of a switch. I was driving home that day when the NAT. alert was aired...really eerie! A state alert is one thing but nation wide is another thing. Obama is setting everything into motion.

Shift on executive power lets Obama bypass rivals
President takes routes around congressional Republicans blocking his agenda
    Obama to Court: Drop Dead

Within hours of the Supreme Court's decision on the Arizona immigration law -- leaving in place a core section of the law that allows local law enforcement to continue checking the immigration status of anyone suspected of being an illegal -- the Obama administration has just said it will no longer enforce the law.

Can you imagine the outrage if this were the Bush Administration ??
