Missing Calif. toddler, father found dead
    AP – Sun, Aug 14, 2011

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — The bodies of a missing 2-year-old Sacramento girl and her father were discovered Saturday night in the man's vehicle, nearly a week after he took her during a child custody dispute, authorities said.

Madeline Samaan-Fay and Mourad "Moni" Samaan, 49, were found dead in his green Toyota 4Runner in a rural area near Placerville, about 45 miles northeast of the capital, according to FBI Special Agent John Cauthen.

Investigators still haven't determined the cause and time of the deaths, Cauthen said. Madeline was taken by her father last Sunday after her mother was granted custody of the toddler. The FBI issued an AMBER alert Friday.

The father and daughter were last seen in a Sacramento Raley's grocery store Sunday. Since then, Samaan had cut off all communication with friends and family members, Cauthen said.

Samaan was served the day before with a notice that the girl's mother was awarded full custody of their daughter, ending what had been a joint custody arrangement, Cauthen said. He then failed to return the child to her mother as expected. Samaan had not been charged with a crime.

The mother didn't report the girl missing until Tuesday.

The FBI had asked the public for its help in spotting the pair or Samaan's vehicle. The FBI also released photographs of the pair, including a photo showing them in the grocery store Sunday. FBI agents and investigators from the El Dorado County Sheriff's Department were on the scene late Saturday. The investigation was expected to last throughout the weekend, Cauthen said.

Well I can sort of understand it. I have been up to divorce court. They are brutal on men. The ex gets a lawyer that takes away everything the man has plus the child and desperation is all that is left.

From the news story I heard, the exhusband came to visit on Sunday after being served and asked to spend time with his daughter. The mom let him take their child so he could "explain" to her why she wouldn't be spending so much time with him.

I have been thru a very ugly divorce.... I'm sorry, I could never be so angry with an ex as to harm my children.

It makes you wonder if these people really love their children or if they just hate the other person so much they're just using the kids to get even with them. Like the man that threwall his kids off the bridge. You'll never convince me he loved them. I believe the oldest wasr five or six and the yougest a few months old. You know they didn't stand a chance of surviving. But the lowlife didn't kill himself he lived.

Depressed people are libel to do bad things, it depends on how despondent they become. Mothers have done the same thing.

I don't think it was a good idea for him to take his daughter to explain why he would not be seeing her as much. You can't explain that to a toddler anyway.

Newlywed faces murder charge for shoving husband off cliff
Jordan Graham, 22, was charged with second-degree murder stemming from the July 7 death of her husband, Cody Johnson.

A Montana woman was charged Monday with killing her husband of eight days by pushing him off a cliff at Glacier National Park during an argument and after expressing doubts about the marriage, court records show.

Jordan Graham, 22, was charged with second-degree murder in U.S. District Court in Missoula stemming from the July 7 death of her husband, Cody Johnson, 25, of Kalispell.

Johnson was reported missing to Kalispell police on July 8. Graham told officers her husband had texted her the evening of July 7 to say he was going for a drive with friends and that she believed he was in a dark-colored car that pulled out of the couple's driveway that night, according to legal documents.

Graham on July 11 reported to emergency dispatchers at Glacier National Park that she had found her husband's body below a steep hiking path. It was not immediately clear how far he had fallen.

Graham later admitted to authorities that she had lied about Johnson's death and that she had shoved him off a cliff during an argument while hiking, according to a sworn statement by FBI Special Agent Steven Liss.

Graham said Johnson grabbed her arm during the dispute.

"Graham stated she could have just walked away, but due to anger, she pushed Johnson with both hands in the back and as a result, he fell face first off the cliff," Liss said in the affidavit.

Graham and Johnson were married on June 29. Soon after the wedding, Graham told a friend that she was having second thoughts about marrying him, Liss said.

The evening of July 7, she texted the friend, "Oh well, I'm about to talk to him," and said in a later text, "But dead serious if u don't hear from me at all again tonight, something happened."

When Graham reported finding her husband's body, a park ranger said that was unusual. "It was a place he wanted to see before he died," Graham told the ranger, according to the affidavit.

Graham's federal public defender, Andy Nelson, could not be reached for comment after business hours on Monday.
