The ABC News Business Unit does some recession math and compares other luxury vacation resorts to Martha’s Vineyard, where the Obama family will travel next week for an end-of-summer stay.
FYI, you’re footing some of the bill:
…Caroline Taylor, another Martha’s Vineyard realtor, estimated that the property would go for $35,000 to $50,000 a week. The Obamas will pay for at least a portion of the rental, but taxpayer funds will be used to pay for Secret Service and staff housing on the property.

Ok, I have to agree that The One and his family are entitled to the vacation and even at the expense of the "tax payer". This has been reported on before and it was said that Obama is paying for the rental of the house they are staying at. It is a given that their staff and body guards will be in attendance also.
Being the First Family, it isn't like they can have just any staff looking after them.
It is the Right of the People to Alter or Abolish Government

We pay for secret service and staff when they are in the White House too. We did it for every President regardless of economic times. Bush vacationed more days than any other President in history. I believe he spent about 30% of his time in office away on vacation. We paid for secret service and staff for all of it. Did that bug you or is it only when a Democrat President does it that it's wrong? Don't bother saying the economy wasn't in as much turmoil. It was definitely headed that way, plus we were at war.

As long as he isn't using tax money to pay for extra curriculer(sp?) activities I don't care if he goes away for the weekend. Yes, Bush did go to his ranch alot, but presidents don't exactly get vacations away from work. It bothers me that people would get so angry that Bush was going away to his ranch, his job doesn't stop just because he's not at the white house, and neither will obama's.

I think what "bothers" some of us (well me anyway) is it seems like he or his wife are going on alot "vacations" and he hasn't even been president a year.
Or shopping and using goverment property to do so, plus SS men etc. while on "business" trips.
And from what I have heard he has alot more SS men BECAUSE of his color and (to some )historic popularity etc. so thats more money taxpayers are paying than any other president.

You would really think he'd scale back a little and maybe vacation at Camp David or something after the way he demonized the executives for trips to Las Vegas.
