    Breast Reduction Surgery

Any one want to tell me how bad breast reduction surgery is? I am going to be taking care of someone who is going to have it done. I know what to expect, like nursing in hospital but after she goes home , what will she expect, pain wise and in other activities. Dr says she can go back to work in a week or 2. She is also going to have tummy liposuction. I think that is going to be more painful than the other surgery.
Please share if you can. Thanks.

She will be in pain, thats for sure, my niece had it done and she said it felt like someone kicked her in the ribs, she had to use ice packs which helped tremendously along with good pain pills.....

frozen veggies work wonders! Get 3 or 4 bags of them and use them as ice packs. The bags conform to the area and makes healing a lot easier.

I've never had the surgery (sadly, I have no reason to) but my best friends mom did and she used the frozen veggies and said they really helped.

Use peas... they are round and won't poke

My cousin had it done, and while it was sore, she was out and about in no time. Age, health, and attitude before the surgery will be a big factor in how well she recovers.
I had a lump taken out of my breast last oct (I'm only 33)
and I was not even afraid, meanwhile my husband acted as though I was volunteering to be fed to a wood chipper!
I had virtually no pain, no fear, nothing, and this was my first surgery ever, and it went great, no cancer!

I am considering breast reduction also. I am a little woman bless/cursed with big boobs, and after the birth of my child, it even got bigger! I would like to hear any stories good or bad, about breast augmentation.

My sil had the surgery done! They told her 2 weeks and she could go back to normal.......NOT! She had quiet a bit of pain and healing was a lot slower than they thought! She had migranes and back troubles and her surgery was to relieve that, and it did!

    Re: Breast Reduction Surgery

Well Friday is the big day. It is my daughter having the surgery. She wanted to go straight home from the surgery but she has agreed to come here for 2 days. She plans to go back to work in one week. She has never had surgery as I said before. I don't think she has any idea that it is going to hurt as bad as it will. I have had probably 25 surgeries and I always forget how bad it hurts. She will be very sensitive to the pain med, so that is one thing in her good. I remember we used to tell the women to keep their arms to their sides and they had tight bandages or bras to wear 24 hrs and I thought they used to have to stay home for a month. Any one else have anything to say? She has just moved into a new house, 2 days ago so it is going to be hard for her no matter where she is to do what she is told.

No way she is going to want to go to work in a week. I had a breast lift done which was very invasive and most people say I look like I had a reduction because of the anchor type scars. It was HORRID pain..lol I have had 3 back surgeries and a few other surgeries and none compared. I wish her luck.

You have to wear a tight ace bandage for a few days and then a tight sports bra by the way unless thungs have changed. Mine was 3 years ago.

My daughter had breast reduction surgery at age 22. Since insurance would not cover it, she was discharged that same PM. Since our home was 1 hour away, she and I stayed in a hotel near the hospital for the first night. She had a drainage system that I emptied and I checked her bandages for bleediing. (none) We went to the surgeon's office early the next AM for post op check and then we were on our way home. She had to take only a few pain pills post op. She had no problems and no regrets on having had this done. She did return to her daily activities except for no lifting for 1-2 weeks. I think she had to wear a sports bra for a while once the big bandage was off and then she only had 4x4 gauze pads over the surgical area.

I will see what I can find out from my daughter. I know that because of the amount of reduction, insurance is paying for it.
