I learned the clove oil trick from my own dentist. It tastes nasty but it does do the trick of relieving pain. The dentist said that it will permantly kill the nerve. Very inexpensive and you can get it over the counter at most any pharmacy. Good Luck!!

Re: What is good for a quik fix for an abscess tooth?
Thanks again for all the advice. He is sleeping well right now. He works the 3rd shift so I'm worried how he will do tonight at work(he refuses to ever be out). The last time it bursted by itself while he was at work. I beleive we might go this morning and find the clove thing and at least let him try it. I didn't know this about the peroxide. We were told it would draw out the pus. We will be going to the dentist in the morning. I have asked everyone I know if the had and old or extra infection meds, but no one has any. Thank you everyone,I really appreciate all the help.

I used to make a paste out of bc powder and put it on it. It worked pretty well. Also, nyquil will knock you out quick so you can sleep it off (when you have no pain pills).

Nyquil is my remedy for just about anything!lol!---but on a serious note-right now i am having a toothache and went on line to see what i could find & i did see several that was mentioned here -i opted for the swishing mouthwash around my mouth & making sure the tooth was there and so far it has worked -since 8am i have done it twice and was able to eat a little sinner--hope hubby feels better
i am nothing special;of this i am sure. i am a common man with common thoughts; and i have led a common life. there are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten, but i've loved another with all my heart and soul, and to me, this has slways been enough--nicholas sparks

Re: What is good for a quik fix for an abscess tooth?
You need to tell your husband an abscessed tooth is nothing to take lightly. It will never get better, only worse. The infection doesn't go away, it will spread outward from the root into the bone supporting the tooth & destroys tissue. Left untreated over time will also cause other health problems. I know a lot of men are hard headed and it's a pain to try and make them go to the dentist or doc. It would be in his benefit to go get it over with.
Do not place aspirin directly over the tooth or gums because it increases irritation.

Re: What is good for a quik fix for an abscess tooth?
The swelling has gone down and he went to work last night. He will be going to the dentist today. His gums have been receding for years, to the point where almost all of his teeth are loose. I think he intends to try and get them all pulled sooner or later(maybe 1 at a time) so that he can just get dentures and not worry about the toothaches any longer. I thank all of you for the advice and I have wrote everything down for future needs. Thanks again. Stacie
