who should get it?
who should get the income tax refund??? My husband made most of the money cause the store I worked for had to let all part time help go and I only worked a few months. I didnt really pay any tax in but I did have the 4 kids (2 from a previous marriage) and I am home during the day raising our 2 while the older ones are at school. My husband basically has it all spent in his head. while we are doing something with it (bought and old mobile home to add on to this one) the rest he has mentally spent already...........oh yeah he has to pay his mom back for the money to move the home which he spent on a big screen tv so the moving money and the borrowed money comes out first which leaves a couple grand.........I finally just told him the other day to freaking keep it all so that he cant say that I wasted any of HIS money....all I got out of the deal was paying the $70 to have our taxes done
the whole thing just hurts my feelings that I feel like I don't count for a person in this house anymore

Re: who should get it?
I am so amazed at the number of married couples on these boards that have "my money" and "his money". In my opinion, it is "our money". So what if he paid in the most taxes....you are the one that popped out those deductions aren't you?

I think you both you should get it. You're married so it should be shared. Things like this kind of make me glad I'm not married. LOL

Re: who should get it?
i had to re-read your posts to make sure you were not seperated. from the sounds of it i thought maybe you were. me and my husband don't have mine and yours money.......it's all ours. i do have my own bank account but any lump sum of money we get goes towards bills or something we need or want for the house.
There is always someone bigger and badder than you!

Re: who should get it?
see thats what I thought and I do for the most part raise them (not to say that he isnt involved BUT he could be more so but he choses to put work first) It isnt so much the money issue because as long as the bills are paid and the kids are taken care of I dont have to have extra money but last year we had $2000 that he put into savings (I didnt so much get a piece of gum) and he spent it all within 4 months

Amen to that Patchouli. I read stuff on here by the married (or those that are just living together) and I am so glad that I have never remarried.

yep we have our own accounts to just because I have the child support for the older kids and I wont let him get his hands on that for anything in the world cause thats for the kids of course now that I dont work there isnt much in there but it is theirs he "forgot" his check book so I got the bill and the money goes into my account which I already told him I would write him one so that he can have his money

ITA. That's just insane to me. When DH and I started getting really serious before marrying, we decided to combine our accounts and make everything 'our money,' and that's the way it's been ever since. The only money that's "his" or "mine" is money we make from surveys and stuff. And even then, if we need it for bills, it's "ours" and must be given up. I see a lack of trust when people can't combine their money and make informed financial decisions together. JMO. Sorry you're going thru this. Split it.

Re: who should get it?
ITA....split it. You do just as much, (if not more) around that house than he does. I can't believe people go through this. You need to stand up for yourself here! If he wants to do that, he should save his half until he gets more...me, personally...we are going to pay off some dentist bills, put some in savings and maybe get a new couch. Great!.

Re: who should get it?
I'm all about sharing it...I don't believe in separate his and her checking accounts and so forth....makes you wonder why the couple feels the need to keep them separate. (And I feel that way even though I make (a bit) more than my hubby)
Anyway, my real question is why do you get so much money back at the end of the year? You're giving the government an interest-free loan imo. We work our deductions so that we only get back $200 or so each year....yeah, it won't buy that big screen TV, but it gives us the use of OUR money throughout the year.
