I have seen that alot on Ebay. I always try to find out what shipping is before I buy because of that. Actually what they are doing I don't think is allowed on there but I am not positive on that. I have seen items for .99 with postage of 7.00 and higher already.

I don't understand your point. Why didn't you factor the $7 shipping into your bid?? The reason for high shipping and handling these days is (1) higher eBay fees and (2) higher PayPal fees. Once you think about HOW MUCH IT COSTS to list and accept your payment (obviously, you are not a seller), then you would understand. To list, you have to pay a minimum of 50 cents (25 cents to list if you start at the ultra-low one cent to 99 cent range plus 25 cents for the gallery). Then there are eBay's final value fees and PayPal fees. Then you have to find or buy an envelope, package it, and run it over to the post office before an already busy workday. I sell on eBay all the time and DO have to charge a high handling fee to help make up for the fees...especially since that allows me to recoup on eBay final value fees (end bids will be lower so FVFs will be lower).

I expect the buyer to factor the shipping in before making the bid. For example, if you are willing to pay only $10 for a certain item, but it's $10 to ship and a $0.99 starting bid, DON'T BID ON IT because you'll have to pay at least $11 for it.

It's called "shipping AND HANDLING" for a reason. If you didn't read or didn't ask about the shipping rate, it sounds like your fault. It doesn't really how much it cost the seller to send you the package, $7.00 shipping and handling is $7.00 shipping and handling. Isn't the most important part that you received it? Who cares what the stamp in the corner says? You thought it was fine when you bid on it...

Fees don't add up to $6 over the price she paid. Sorry, but that is outrageous.

I do agree that you should not have bid if you knew that the item was $7 shipping. I have passed on many items due to high shipping, which is fine with me.

I only charge $.85 for "handeling" for printing postage and for driving to the PO. It is MY choice to accept paypal and I personally am not passing that off on others.

I always try to factor in shipping handling because in most cases even with the excessive charge in the end its cheaperfor the overall item anyway.

I always check the shipping price first before I bid, cause I've seen some outrageous shipping charges for things like a pack of stickers(shipping was $4.50) but sometimes the bid prices are way lower than shipping prices cause the items are heavy..I try to charge low prices for things like jeans, cause I know it's expensive to ship them...So if I start the jeans at .99 and you win, you will probably end up paying $7.00 or more for shipping...*S*, Rebekka

P.S. I forgot to say that I don't agree with having higher shipping costs, just to cover fees etc, the fees should be figured into the price of the bid, let's say you want at least 1.00 for your item, then add .40 or so to it, to cover the costs instead of adding in the fees to shipping..JMO..*S*, Rebekka

Always check out the cost of shipping before bidding. Sometimes the shipping will make the actual purchase out of line. I don't buy if I think that the shipping is more than I would spend to ship something (including handling charges).

I am newer member- but have been viewing this site for like 3 yrs. So hello!! Anyways, I sell alot on Ebay and buy quite a bit also. Email him and ask him why he charged you 7.00 for something that cost him >1.00 to send. You can always leave neutral or neg. feedback also. I have had shipping charges refunded quite a few times because I asked. Good Luck!

It's like this on A LOT of items...
Sellers want to grab your attention by having a low priced/bid item. I was looking at hard drives on Ebay the other day. I wanted something around the 40 to 80 gig range for a secondary pc. Prices ranged from $30 to $50 but the shipping was anywhere from $12 to $18 so with shipping factored in the drive was about the same price as you'd by from NewEgg, where I get most of my pc parts. Average shipping at NewEgg for a hard drive was $4 to $5.

I know Ebay's prices went up and I know what PayPal charges too but quadruple shipping prices are a rip off

What they are doing is trying to avoid ebays fees and it's against the rules. I won't bid on an item until I know how much the shipping is. I don't understand why all ebay sellers don't have that shipping fee thing listed on their page. A lot do but then there are those who don't. It makes it so much easier for everyone. That way you don't need to bother the seller by emailing them to ask them how much shipping is going to cost. You can contact ebay and let them know that the seller is trying to avoid ebay fees by charging an outrageous amount for shipping. They will look into it.
