What is going on!? (if you are tired of school vents, stay out lol)
Ok, I get my 7 y/o grandgirl today. Go to enroll her in school and they want us to go to court and have court papers that state that we have guardianship. What we have are notarized documents from the state because there was no need to go to court as there was no conflict..... I can't afford to go to court!!
So now we have the GG and she has no school to go to because she HAS to go to the school in our district (can't transfer out, already tried) but the district will not accept the papers that we have.
Another reason we don't want to go to court is because GG's biological father has not seen her since the day she was born and trying to get child support is a nightmare... everytime the state finds where he is working and garnishes his check, he quits his job... rumor is that he is now in another state. Anyhow Oklahoma is one of those states that believe the kids should be with their biological parents and the temp guardianship thing is only temporary MAYBE a year and we are afraid that the court will want us to try to find biological... know what I mean?
The papers we have ARE legal, we just didn't go through the courts to obtain them.
So now if she doesn't go to school, we can be fines, but the school won't take her!!!
In tulsa district all they need it a letter (not even notarized) from the parent saying where the child is staying and thats it... this district is EVIL and I can't wait to get as far away from it as SOON possible!
The ONLY thing I can do at this point is to put GG back in her old school and not even say anything about her living here.... but then I have 3 girls in three different schools who all start and get out at the same times! One rides a bus, but I can't be in 2 different places at one to pick up DD & GG.
I think I am going grey

contact a school board member. Maybe they can help around the red tape, if not do you have a lawyer that can help?

Contact the superintendant of the school and he/she will be able to tell you what you need to do to get around going to court. Good luck - I hope everything works out

I can, but I am not going to LOL I applaud all of the men and women who homeschool their kids, but I just don't have the time to be able to do it, even if I did, I am honestly not sure if I had the patience for it. I think the parents who do homeschool are super hero's!
Just talked to my attorney and he basically said that we should go through the courts (like the school wants us to) because thats the only way to be able to get GG into the school over here. He also eased my mind about GG's biological father. He basically said if he hasn't wanted to even visit with her in 7 years, there is no way a court would let him have her... on top of the fact that no one knows where he is, so if he dosen't know about the court stuff, then he can't show up. He also promised to help out if for some reason bio dad did show up. I had to get that out of him in order for me to be completely comfortable with the entire court thing.
I still have to borrow the money to file it, but as long as it will clear all this crap up, I can deal with owing $50 - $60

Try asking your congressman for help. That's what they're there for. There should be a number for him/her in the phone book. You'd be surprised what a call from somebody in authority can do for a schools willingness to get off their behinds and enroll a kid.
If nothing else, maybe they can help you out with the paperwork. A child shouldn't be denied an education because of paperwork...

Contact your local paper or news channel. They usually have someone who does "human interest" stories. A little publicity about not allowing a child to go to school over this issue would look lovely in this age of "No child left behind". Bet the school would change their minds really fast.
