My 4 year old has the flu...

She was feeling so crappy yesterday, but last night her fever jumped to 104.1. We ended up in the ER because I have heard such bad stories about this stuff and it scared me. They did a nose swab and yep it's the flu. She is feeling a little better today and not running a high fever but she is coughing quite alot. Thank goodness she is drinking more today, still not eating anything though but as long as she is drinking that's good. They did give her a dose of med at the ER to help shorten the course of the symptoms, called Amantadine. We had to search all over three different towns to find a pharmacy with it. My son is sick too but the doc the other day says he has a croup type virus but I am now thinking he probably has the same thing but with his asthma his cough is more barky. I just hope that they both get to feeling better soon.

One of the guys that works for me is out with it now. And I work in a small office so I am waiting to see if we all get it. I feel sorry for your little ones.

This is the first day that the three of us are getting back to normal from it. Pickle, whose 9, woke up with a temp. and the yuckies on Saturday and now it's run it's course in all of us.She had Flumadine (liquid form)and H-C Tussive (for the cough). Hubby and I had Rimantadine, the generic Flumadine.
Those meds really do help it run it's course faster.

    Well wishes for your babies!

Thanks you guys. The doc said that they Amantadine, will help shorten it's course as long as given within the first 48 hrs. and we caught it in time for the med. She is still running a temp, I just took it it's 103.1 again. I am also giving her Robitussin and I am alternating the Motrin and Tylenol. The poor little sweetie is just so pitiful looking I feel so bad for her. My son has been sick for about a week, so we unfortunately didn't catch his in time. I feel like he'll eventually be going back because I think he is getting broncitis now and he also has asthma (not really bad) and he is having to use his inhaler because of it. The ER doc told us last night to be prepared because most likely we will all end up with it, I already feel somewhat crappy. I just hope that they are feeling better soon. I just hate to see my babies sick.

POPSICLES. When Rebeka was hospitalized 8 years ago with the FLU all they could get her to eat for almost a week was popsicles.

I cannot stress the importance of getting the medication into your babies.....and if they have not had the flu shot yet....please get it for them.

I am in NC.....by profession I am a pediatric nurse....

NC is being considered an epidemic state with this flu......in the last 2 1/2 weeks....we have lost 4 children due to this horrid flu!
    aka.....mesbpn

100 years from now, the world may be a better place because I was important in the life of a CHILD!

Thanks for all the well wishes, she is feeling better this evening. At least she was up playing a little bit and eat a little applesauce. Her temp was back up to about 103 around 2 but with Motrin it came back down. She is asleep now (in my bed).
