I've had this friend for about 4 years, and lately we've been getting closer. I've thought about seeing him and I was even excited about it b/c I THOUGHT he was a really great guy. I was just waiting b/c I live w/my ex bf.

Anyway, he told me that he's scammed people on eBay. Those were his words. I asked him how. He said he sold INFORMATION and people didn't read the entire auction (long auctions, big fonts, messy, lots of graphics to load, etc) and they thought they were bidding on an actual item. He was selling wholesale info that you can find anywhere. I'm sure some of you have seen these auctions. He said sometimes he got up to $160 for "playstations." I asked him how they reacted afterwards and he said they were mad and tried to go about getting their money back (from PayPal) but it never went through.

So I tried not to go off on him and I just said something like, "I couldn't do that b/c you have no idea who these people are. They could have saved for 5 months to be able to afford a playstation for their kids. I couldn't do it." He was like, "Is it my fault they can't read?" The auctions stated that it WASN'T for an actual playstation, but the auctions are set up to confuse and overwhelm people. They're purposely that way to deceive people who are new to eBay and who are just generally naive and gullible. He even said before that he "scammed" them. Then later he said, "I guess it's not really scamming, it's just taking advantage of idiots." So anyway, I told him it's not his fault "they can't read," but he could have given them their money back. He said, "No, they got what they paid for." He DID send them the information.

I'm SO MAD!! I'm mad at him, I'm mad that there are people like him in the world, and I'm mad at myself for getting so excited over the prospect of him & I before I even really knew him.

And I feel sad b/c I want absolutely nothing to do with him now b/c there's NO WAY I could EVER be with someone like that.

I thought he was nice. I mean, one time at Chili's, he paid for random people's meals. I thought that was sweet, but now that I think about it - he's a student and he works, he doesn't have money to throw around like that so it's just indicative of his immaturity, and irresponsibility. Maybe he felt guilty and that was his way of getting rid of the money that he got from these people.+

Oh, and he said he made around 6 grand during the time he did this, which was about 2 months.

to me that is so wrong and is scamming-hugs2u-i know it is tuff but you are better off without someone that can do this to people JMO

i've seen those auctions on EBAY, luckily i scan every auction i look at with a fine tooth comb

Thanks everyone. He's not doing it anymore b/c his account got suspended for shill bidding. It's so hard to dismiss someone who is like that, but otherwise great. In the 4 years we've been friends, he's had girlfriends and he's a really great boyfriend. I just can't be with someone like that.

I'm glad I found out now too b/c I'm not in love with him or anything. Just excited.

umm...i m gladyou've seen him for what he is. if he would willingly screw folks over like that..how could YOU ever trust his word?? and i am thinking he may be a great BF but..i dunno..with tht attitude?i'd be concerned if you or any other girl broke up with him.
